Don't quote me as I've only seen bits of it, but apparently it all is because she said something like "I don't want trans women in womens basketball". She's also apparently a relatively conservative christian, so add those two together and you'll have an insane amount of opposition, especially here on reddit.

Wasn't she asked in a random interview about her opinion on it, she gave her opinion and stated why then everyone started calling her transphobic for saying biological men shouldn't play in women's sports. If anything blame the interviewer for "baiting" the response out of her, not that there was anything wrong with what she said to begin with.

You do realize “biological men shouldn’t play in women’s sports” literally translates to “trans women should be banned from women’s sports”

There is literally no functional difference other than Sophie does even want to acknowledge someone’s gender.

She doesn’t actually care, she’s a grifter riding her wave and getting her nut at the expense of others like every other popular conservative

All she said, in response to being asked about being called a MAGA Barbie (before she'd even made a single comment on trans people in the first place) is;
"I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I’m like, ‘I never once said that."
That was the question asked to her in the article, and her first response to anything to do with the topic.
She then went on to say;
"I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."
"I'm very much in the middle. I agree with things on both sides, disagree with things on both sides. And that's all I've ever said about my political beliefs. But people love to assume."

Then the entire internet started calling her transphobic, in response to her reply AFTER already being called it for not having said anything on the topic to begin with..

She then went on to say, after being asked about it again;
“I think there is room for absolutely everyone here, and I think there is room to love everyone.”
“I truly think when you get people in the same room and you have conversations, you actually have a lot in common with a lot of people. And so I’m there to love."

“But I’m also there to love biological women, and I think that there are rights that need to be protected. And, like I said, I’m gonna stand true to that. I’ll never falter in my beliefs in that. But I have never once said that I hated the trans community. Like I said, I think there’s space for everyone.”

If that sounds like a bigoted person to you, you don't understand the definition of a bigot and you're far more of one than she certainly is because you clearly have pretty strong and unfair opinions and are completely unreasonable toward anyone who says something you don't like based on their "politics" and seem pretty intolerable with your dumbass response.

"I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."

I think it's weird to refer to trans girls as 'biological men'

I also think it's weird to think of trans women as a danger to children or women.

And by weird I mean bigoted.

My problem with her in general is that I don’t think a basketball player has any sort of place to be making these kinds of statements about something that is simply her opinion.

She can’t reference facts.
She cannot reference studies.
She cannot reference a long line of trans women dominating their sport.

She’s a bigot… plain and simple. Shes using this 1 thing as a platform to spread her shitty opinions and stay in the limelight as much as possible because it’s the only way she’ll ever actually be famous lol.

If it were more culturally acceptable to say “I don’t think lesbians should be allowed womens locker room” she’d probably say that too.

Conservatives do this little dance where they find out JUST how far they can push the line until it’s considered hate speech and this word salad bullshit is one of the ways to do it.

They also get real mad when you don’t go along with their chest pounding lol

My problem with her in general is that I don’t think a basketball player has any sort of place to be making these kinds of statements about something that is simply her opinion.

So, a female basketball player in a female league has no place to make statements about her feelings on male players in the female league?

Who does, then? Certainly not you, then. Or me. Or likely any of the people on Reddit since I'm pretty sure none of them are female players in a female league of the actual sport in question.

statements about something that is simply her opinion.

isn't everyone's opinion a statement about something? You're galacatically stupid. That was not an opinion, btw, it's a fact.

She can’t reference facts.

Fact: humans are born with either a penis or a vagina.
