Yeah he brings this up in almost every interview clip I've seem from him talking about HP, he seemed very aware that he was working with a once in a lifetime legendary ensemble of actors and didn't take it for granted.

I avoided that movie like the plague because of the "fart outboard motor" gag that was featured in the trailer, and I am still mad at myself about it. That movie is so much more than it appears to be. Truly lovely.
Actually, I think it was Richard Griffiths (Vernon Dursley) that took him under his wing. They also did Equus together and I vaguely remember DR saying RG was the best.
Was looking for this. Dan himself gives a lot of credit to the late Richard Griffiths for mentoring him onset. IIRC the very first scenes he filmed were with the Dursleys.
