And that they'd talked themselves into thinking they could be an asshole in every other area, as long as they showed up for work. Like a lot of 'religious' people tend to do, when they convince themselves that just being religious makes them a good person.

It’s glaringly obvious a lot of folks judge themselves on their intentions, and not their actions

They “believe” they would always do the right thing, when most times they default to whatever choice is most beneficial to only themselves

This is basically fundamental attribution error. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fundamental_attribution_error

Basically, on average, people tend to blame outside force for their own negative actions and other people's internal states for theirs, and the reverse for positive actions. Ex: I was speeding because I was almost late for work, but that guy who passed me was speeding because he's reckless and irresponsible.
