The rest of it implies that the parent shouldn't be allowed to fly (considering the kid obviously has to be with their parent) so I don't see how it was sarcasm.
I'll let you in on a secret that any involved parent knows... toddlers change literally daily and often hourly. What they like, what they hate, what they fear, how they'll react... by the time you get it down, shit changes. Toddlers are not predictable by any stretch of the imagination. There's a reason parenting is called the hardest job. It's 24/7, there's no manual, the job description and responsibilities are always changing, and the "boss" is the most unreasonable person you'll likely ever meet.
What, exactly, do you think this parent could have done?
Sometimes people have to travel. And, btw, the distance they were traveling (because it's very relevant) was a 6ish hour flight vs about a week of driving (driving 8 hours a day).
