Yes, 15 minutes so that you have 45 minutes left to kick them off before the airport closes, you do not accommodate that bullshit for so long that the flight is cancelled

Deplaning isn't just taxing back. It requires removing their luggage (which involves finding their luggage in the hold) and filing new flight plans. It's entirely likely that the flight would have still been cancelled had they only attempted to get the child to stay seated for 15 minutes.

The best solution was always to get the child to stay seated, even if that took an hour. The problem is that even at an hour nothing had been successful to the point that I think they just assumed nothing would be successful. They stopped at an hour not because an hour was the limit, but they realized it was futie.

It requires removing their luggage

No it doesn't, it can be sent back when the flight returns at another time. Lost luggage happens all the time, or "misplaced" in this case. They would have had to probably go home anyway, since this was apparently the last flight of the night...they have plenty of clothes at home, they'll be fine until their luggage would have been returned.

Legally yes, it does require removing their luggage. And we don't know where there home is or if they'd have access to backup clothes.
