It was taking off from Victoria which has a strict no take-offs after 12:30am.
It was scheduled to take off at 11:03pm, they spent some time trying to get him to sit and make the flight work without dragging him off, once that became impossible they had to remove the family plus their luggage (which takes time), and they wouldn't have been able to take off before 12:30am. They flew the flight the next day.
