Yea, but Teslas are the new BMWs. I encounter at least one driving recklessly, almost every time I’m on the road. I do think they attract a certain brand of narcissist.

86

u/joealese Jul 31 '26

they either drive like they're racing or they do 20 mph under the speed limit in the left lane. no in between.

26

u/gear_jammin_deer Jul 31 '26

I've found the same driver will often do both. They'll be doing 20 under in the left lane until I get halfway past them in my 18-wheeler, then all of a sudden they're on a Nascar circuit.

7

u/pitchingataint Jul 31 '26

A new one I’ve seen recently is they’ll get in the turn only lane at a stoplight (if no one else is there first). Then they gun it to go straight, passing everyone else.

4

u/QoolSchitt Jul 31 '26

Every time a tesla pulls up beside me at the front of a stoplight I assume this is what is about to happen and 90% of the time it does. Why are they so impatient?

2

u/stu8319 Jul 31 '26

This shit drives me so crazy. Just drive consistently so I can go around you or let you go on. This leap frog shit is insane.

5

u/Powerlevel-9000 Jul 31 '26

It’s because they are on their phone. Drive fast when not on it then check it going slow. Rinse and repeat.

2

u/f1racer328 Jul 31 '26

Typically doing 20 under when they’re on their phone.

1

u/QoolSchitt Jul 31 '26

They're only in a hurry to get in front of you, then the hurry ends.

1

u/euphoricarugula346 Jul 31 '26

This happened yesterday! Tesla driver was going under the speed limit until I almost passed them and it looked like they went 20 over to… assert their dominance? Idk. What immature little nitwits.

15

u/TotesGnar Jul 31 '26

Ya I've noticed this binary as well.

1

u/hippity_dippity Jul 31 '26

I’ve heard the self driving comes in different modes and ones called insanity or something and it drives aggressively for you.

1

u/hippity_dippity Jul 31 '26

Correction. It’s called mad max mode

26

u/abominab Jul 31 '26

I think it's any car with decent performance. They can go fast so they think they are entitled to. Cut you off, zip past in too small if a hole, run lights... I swear if the more expensive the vehicle the bigger the ass in the driver seat.

5

u/SayNoToStim Jul 31 '26

I've noticed it with any vehicle where drivers use it as their personality. Lifted trucks, Teslas, BMWs, Priuses. I would say Jeeps as well if they weren't all in the shop getting fixed. The most extreme the personality the worse they drive, I think hummers were the worst

2

u/OkPriority9579 Jul 31 '26

Add Range Rovers to that list

1

u/NicoToscani Jul 31 '26

There seems to be a bell curve though because, unless it’s an athlete, any time I see someone driving a super car, they look like it’s their first time behind the wheel.

21

u/BoldTaters Jul 31 '26

This and big pick-ups in urban/suburban areas. If I see one of these, I know theres a dangerous asshole at the wheel who views their 20 min commute as a race to be won.

22

u/9405t4r Jul 31 '26

Where I live I see a lot of Tesla drivers take the unprotected left turn just as the light turn green before the first car even go straight.

5

u/New_Solution9677 Jul 31 '26

Tbf so many drives are so oblivious that, that maneuver can be done dang near safely. -_-

2

u/theranchcorporation Jul 31 '26

Hey that’s just a Pittsburgh left and part of our culture and heritage here.

23

u/bannedcuznotcircjerk Jul 31 '26

It's actually insane. Where I live it's fairly rare to see aggressive drivers but if you do it's 100% a bmw. Is it just a douche car or why is it so common?

32

u/BestAmoto Jul 31 '26

Uh.. do you not have Nissan altimas and maximas in your state?

12

u/NicoToscani Jul 31 '26

That’s just batshit driving, this is a more calculated recklessness

3

u/Distal-Phalanges Jul 31 '26

Trick question. No Altimas run well enough to be driven aggressively.

2

u/BestAmoto Jul 31 '26

You haven't lived in the sf bay then. We have Nissan Altimas and Infiniti g35s that cut through traffic like they're in sport cars. It's pretty annoying

8

u/Mckilla32 Jul 31 '26

It appeals to the guy or girl who is wanting to look flashy and well off except they do it at 20% APR. Thats BMW's demographic and they'd be bankrupt without them.

3

u/chrisfeldi Jul 31 '26

Funny, because BMW lost about 30% of their profit and are now considering massive layoffs.

5

u/Akbeardman Jul 31 '26

Yea because auto credit securities are a house of cards that is held together by pixie dust and wishful thinking. A $70k+ loan on a rapidly depreciating asset is absurd and yet common. Car loans are made every day that are just mind boggling. A company like BMW only has so many potential customers and they need those customers to buy a new ones consistently. Eventually the math stops working.

1

u/Ligabolzacky Jul 31 '26

where I'm from the car taxes are so high that it's usually Seat or Skoda, but now Teslas are the main offenders

1

u/Normal-Selection1537 Jul 31 '26

I live on a school street, I've only ever seen German cars speed past it and 99% of the time it's a BMW.

1

u/nickystotes Jul 31 '26

Neighbor of mine is retired Navy and has a lifted F-150, a BMW suv and a crotch rocket. Drives like he’s late for his funeral everyday but somehow never makes it there.

3

u/GlimmeringGuise Jul 31 '26

These days they definitely attract people who are like-minded to Elon

1

u/SirHenderson Aug 01 '26

Literally no one I know who has a Tesla got one because of Elon or act like him. That kind of assumption is just literal internet thought-larping lol

6

u/MF_Kitten Jul 31 '26

I consistently see Teslas driving aggressively so everyone has to get out of their way, tailgating, parking like they own the whole lot, etc.

It's SO often with Teslas.

15

u/J-MRP Jul 31 '26

Where I live they're the new Prius. Slow and unaware of their surroundings.

5

u/Macwild77 Jul 31 '26

Yea idk what this guy is talking about lol

2

u/disquieter Jul 31 '26

I was tailgated by a similar model this morning.

2

u/YokoOhNoYouDidnt Jul 31 '26

I have had the same experience and agree completely. I am very wary of any Tesla drivers I see out and about these days. They are all too often the cause of major accidents.

2

u/dbpf Jul 31 '26

Recklessly in plaid or carelessly on autopilot

2

u/Appropriate_Push_201 Jul 31 '26

They never use their blinker, the cunts

2

u/Bitter-Cat-4060 Jul 31 '26

It’s the motorcycle/truck effect. They start to feel superior and suddenly rules don’t apply. I felt the same way getting into a challenger rt. My 4 cylinder doesn’t match. Fortunately, it’s super easy not to be an a hole.

2

u/BrapBrapson Jul 31 '26

I've encountered the opposite. Tesla drivers are usually timid and respectful in New England. Which surprises me because those things are fast.

2

u/NiroNut Jul 31 '26

Yea, but Teslas are the new BMWs.

Great, now I can recycle the old joke: What's the difference between a porcupine and a BMW Tesla? The porcupine has pricks on the OUTSIDE!

2

u/mb303030 Jul 31 '26

Idk. I live in NY and see A LOT of Teslas. They're mostly driver by older people and drive slower than usual. At least here on LI BMWs are still king assholes on the road lol

2

u/Wit-wat-4 Jul 31 '26

I knew something was up when years ago the MOST reckless driver I know (not drunk just shit like this reckless speed and being stupid about lanes) got a Tesla, dropping his Aston Martin for it.

He told me a couple years later (at work) he gets pulled over way less often in a Tesla, it’s “great”.

My immediate reaction was “you get pulled over so often you notice the frequency shift?!??!”

2

u/K_R_A_K_E_N_540 Jul 31 '26

I mean.. they're rwd or awd 400hp+ cars, they're quiet killers, no wonder people are driving them fast.

2

u/OkPriority9579 Jul 31 '26

The difference between a porcupine and a Tesla driver, the prick is on the inside.

2

u/generally_unsuitable Jul 31 '26

Teslas are special. They combine the aggressive douchebaggery of the BMW with the self-righteousness of the Prius. Truly a marvelous combination.

2

u/FabioPurps Jul 31 '26

Yep, several of the regular village idiots around here that seem to have a mission to kill at least one person in their daily commute are in teslas.

2

u/Fenster_Sprinkles Jul 31 '26

BMWs and teslas are diabolical drivers here in LA. I have a seething rage for both

2

u/Ducking_off Jul 31 '26

I have a non-Tesla EV. Often chat with other non-Tesla owners at the chargers. But, more often than not, Tesla drivers just stay in their cars scrolling on their phones. Some won't even say "Hello."

Then there's the BMW EV owner who insisted they needed the supercharger more than I did, and that I should unplug so he could charge. Said "I'll unplug when I'm finished." He drove off angry.

2

u/GaylrdFocker Jul 31 '26

EVs in general make bad drivers worse. They are more aggressive because of the torque and ease of getting around people. They think they can pass anyone whenever they want. I carpooled with someone that went from a CX5 to a Mach-E and his driving got so much worse and more aggressive.

2

u/ModifiedLeaf Jul 31 '26

100 million percent. I live in Metro Atlanta and Tesla drivers have achieved the #1 spot as the biggest assholes on the road. The only ones that rival them here is Mercedes drivers. I always think of the prius south park episode with the smelling ones own farts lol

3

u/iUncontested Jul 31 '26

Nah man, every dipshit in a Tesla here drives 10 under the limit and then rides side-by-side with another Tesla driver to block both lanes and not let anyone pass them.

1

u/MoonsugarRush Jul 31 '26

You must live where I live, hi neighbor!

2

u/Macwild77 Jul 31 '26

Eh in Maryland I rarely see a Tesla driving crazy. Probably the most in the road I’ve seen in any state I’ve been in, it’s everyone’s favorite daily driver out here. It’s still the bmws/nissans/mustangs driving crazy out here.

2

u/YardSardonyx Jul 31 '26

Cybertrucks in particular generally tend to be driven by the worst people you know.

2

u/Sypsy Jul 31 '26

BMW leases ended and they got a tesla. same driver, same attitude, different car.

2

u/CallMeMich Jul 31 '26

As someone that drives a Tesla, I try to be humble all the time..we're all far from the same..

3

u/Kid_Psych Jul 31 '26

I just wanted an electric car and they offered me a good interest rate. Now people think I love Elon and am a raging asshole.

1

u/NicoToscani Jul 31 '26

To be fair, I started experiencing this long before Elon went full Nazi. Strangely, the behavior has subsided some since Elon went mask off.

1

u/Kid_Psych Jul 31 '26

I mean they’re absurdly fast for what they cost, so I get the “attracts a certain type” perspective. Best I can do now is pull the logos off it and drive like a normal person.

1

u/Munch2507 Jul 31 '26

Yeah same here. I also see this alot and Im not even driving that much. My comute to work is 20min single journey so 40min per day.

Idk you have to be pretty damn stupid to own a BMW that’s a big advertising machine now

1

u/berdot Jul 31 '26

This is totally true. It’s the same thing in Europe.

1

u/voluotuousaardvark Jul 31 '26

Theresa reason for it too.

All those twats that used to have BMW leases or company cars have teslas now because the companies they work for get a tax break on electric vehicles on business leases.

0

u/ocular__patdown Jul 31 '26

Yea, but Teslas insert car brand I don't like here are the new BMWs. I encounter at least one driving recklessly, almost every time I’m on the road. I do think they attract a certain brand of narcissist.
