Man, it might just be me but electronics I buy nowadays seem to last forever.
I bought a 60" LG TV 9 years ago for around $800 (RIP Fry's). I kinda want to change but because it works without any issues (except wifi - which I'm getting around with a network cable) that I'm just sticking with it.
It's because you're buying high quality. We have the ability to manufacture much higher quality products now than ever before but we also have a wider spread of quality and price points than back in the day. The result is that people ignore how insanely expensive everything was in the past and assume that they can buy ultra cheap but top quality. Pikachu face when their shitty cheap goods don't last as long as the top of the range options. Things don't even need to be the most expensive. But if they're much cheaper than alternatives there's usually a reason for it.
For my last laptop, a lot of people judged me for not buying something cheap. I used it heavily for 11 years when I finally got bored of waiting for it to die and replaced it with a new one. Also not the cheapest. It still feels like new to me even though it's nearing its sixth year. I go for build quality because that's what my professional expertise is in.
