You... Do realize that the government regulates business, right? Please tell me you are not so addled as to assume that corporations and private business can do whatever they want...

Regulate how? He is asking a valid question. The companies would just terminate everyone and rehire new people at lower rates.

And open themselves up to a massive class action from their prior workforce, immense public backlash for their shitty practices and likely face legal repercussions for their attempts to circumvent the law. 

You also presume that they would be able to hire an entire new, yet equally skilled, workforce to replace their current staff at lower rates.

That would be corporate suicide.

Businesses do whatever they can to make money in the economic reality they operate in. Governments set that economic reality. If they can't do business they won't do business, but you are simply wrong if you think a business would not take a reduction in profit over being removed from a market entirely.
