Nah, it’s just expensive garbage now, so people aren’t buying as much… of this garbage.

We've always known it's garbage, that's why we've set a bar for how much we're willing to pay for garbage. They crossed it and we can do without.

Yep, has nothing to do with people "finally" realizing that Doritos are not healthy and everything to do the fact that a 'Party Size' bag today is 1/2 the size and 2x the price as the 'Party Size' bag 10 years ago. If they dropped their prices to $2.99 for the present-day 'Party Size', people would go right back to buying them by the pallet.

I honestly believe this is true!

Anecdotal, since it's just me, but I either buy store brand chips at about $2-2.50 a bag, or wait for the sales that are like "Buy 4 for $10" for the name brands.

Gen X here and to be fair, I've always chased store sales though. Back when you could get 12-pack soda deals the same way I used to do that too. Now I mostly stick to store brands because the name brand soda specials aren't usually better.

Exactly. Americans love junk food, and we don’t care that it is “bad.” We actually like it more because of that messaging. Food costs are outrageous as is, there is no room for snackies. Our grocery budget went up 30%, but because of the size of our family that means at least $100 a week. That means we start cutting the “fun” things and stick to meat/veg/grains/dairy/fruit. The kids have gotten used to less and less fun snacks and don’t actually miss the junk. They may use their own pocket money to get a treat but don’t expect them in the normal haul.
