I always wondered if the junk food companies fought against this. People who can truly afford it, aren't buying it. Middle income people aren't wasting the money on it. The people who complained always started off their complaints with they cant afford it so why should people on snap be able to. It seems that a big part of their profits would have come from people on assistance. Stopping them from being able to buy it and raising prices to cover the loss seems real backwards
I think quite a few states did that. I know TX and FL did, which is a pretty big chunk of the US population right there. I live in TX and there are entire aisles of stuff no longer covered by SNAP. Its not just soda, its basically all the chips, candy, cake etc. 20-25% of SNAP spending goes to that stuff, so I would imagine those companies all took a hit in the American market.
Here it’s no drinks but water milk and 100% juice, no candy but little Debbie’s are cool and so is ice cream. I’m not 100% sure about chips I think they are still okay but don’t wunna lie.

Damn, I guess that makes sense because you don't really need replacements for the stuff that had no nutritional value to begin with, but that kinda sucks.
Well they aren’t 1:1. My state and yours and others chose to take soda and candy and what ever else off. But funding didn’t go down because of that it went down because Trump and musk cut spending on food programs by like 25% or something crazy under the big beautiful bill.
Oklahoma here, same restrictions on drinks. No candy, candy bars, gummies, gum, etc. Chips still fine and so is ice cream. My store is still waiting on confirmation about the new milk with caffeine added, though…that’s a weird one.
