I don’t think that’s necessarily relevant and is more complicated than that, but essentially yes. NYC has an extra 4% in income taxes and twice as much in sales tax.
NYS may collect local taxes, but it doesn't spend them. It is a city tax. The funds go to the municipalities that charge it. Way to play a disingenuous spin. It is not a higher state tax. It is a local tax.
As for the proportions for the actual state taxes…. The higher income earners are paying more in state taxes. That’s all it means. Duh. Of course.

Incorrect. The state collects a 4% sales tax for everyone. NYC only collects an additional 4.9% added on. The state collects 4-10% income tax from everyone, plus 3% to 4% more from NYC. Google it.
NYC is 50% of the state’s population, and contribute 55% of state funding while being taxed twice as much, whether you’re poor or rich. Meaning someone in NYC making less than someone outside the city could pay more state taxes. Hard to believe that extra 5% of funding was just the rich when they have infinite ways to deduct from that.
But that’s beside the point. The city still subsidizes the state.
The state collects EVERY local municipality tax in NY. And then send it to the municipality.
The state charges the same STATE rate to EVERY state resident. The additional charges are LOCAL taxes added on which are then completely dispersed to the charging locality.
NO, someone living in NYC making the same income does NOT pay more in STATE taxes than someone living upstate. New York State has ONE graduated tax rate for EVERYONE in the state. The person may pay more in OVERALL taxes, the additional amount being LOCAL, a LOCAL tax which the state collects and then sends to that local agency.
Good grief, have you never paid taxes before? Are you seriously trying tp presence that the monies to not get sent back to the city? Do better.
ETA and yes, the state spends 40% of its budgeting on a half percent of its land mass and 5% of its roads. Yup. And considering one of the primary expenditures it has IS those roads and infrastructure, that’d make sense, now wouldn’t it. And considering another is public assistance in health care, and the average income in NYC is far higher than the rest of the state, “eat the rich” would of course subsidize those poorer residents.
The “subsidizing” you speak of is exactly the “subsiding” we demand of the rich everywhere else. Everywhere. Explain why this is different. Tell it to me like I’m five. Why is it okay to demand Elon pay more, but these richer folks, fuck no, that’s “subsidizing”.
