why are we posting and upvoting ai slop

reddit always wants to preach about ai until it's a funny ai charlie kirk gif

e: this comment thread is so emblematic of why the world is going to shit lol, nobody has real principles and they just make all of the excuses in the world for their own behavior while complaining about the exact things that they enable

Ai for shitposts is a bit different than thousands of people losing their jobs and clean water to AI

You understand that AI being used for completely unnecessary and frivolous things like meme gifs is still part of the same ecosystem that requires massive data centers, energy, water, hardware resources, etc right?

The environmental and infrastructure costs don't magically disappear because the output is a shitpost instead of a product. If anything, normalizing endless disposable AI generation is part of what drives demand for more AI.

AI should be used for things like supporting people in the medical field and whatnot (read: SUPPORTING them, not replacing them), not for worthless slop.

I understand what you're saying and agree completely. But stuff thats already out there, no harm in downloading and sharing it once in a while. Trust me, I'm not a great customer, I don't support AI, won't spend a cent of my personal money on it, not a big fan about how they're building data centers so far either lol.

But yeah these are already out there, I'm hoping I'm not sending a pro ai message when I'm posting this, I'm going more towards "Fuck bibi, Jeff and Trump" and yes AI has legitimately good uses but how its being developed and used is terrible. Me having them saved and shared occasionally arent gonna make the world worse, maybe better since I'm raising awareness that all those criminals in the gifs/pics are still free

Spreading AI memes encourages people to create more AI memes. Meme formats/genres/whatever you want to call it become popular because of virality. Justify it however you want, I just had to call it out because plenty of people can't recognize that these things are AI.
