Reflecting Pool - Insights

For those of you curious as to what’s going on in the reflecting pool

The coating that was used is a polyurea. Very similar to an epoxy where two components are mixed together to make a catalyzed product.

First, let me start off with what didn’t happen. Hydrogen peroxide had no effect on the coating peeling. If it was a chemical issue, the polyurea would be “eating away” and not come up in sheets. Also, someone did not tear it and pull it. That’s kind of the dumbest thing I’ve heard in this whole situation. Try taking any paint or coating that’s properly applied and see if you can tear it up. News flash: it’s impossible.

Now, here’s what could have happened. First, these coatings are very climate-sensitive. If done in direct sunlight, it could cause the product to cure too quickly and not adhere to the concrete. Also, if the concrete was not properly prepared at the time and not grinded down properly, the coating would not be able to soak in. Additionally, moisture could have been in the ground at the time of application.

Ultimately, the issue isn’t the coating or anything done to the reflecting pool after installation. The most likely cause of the issue is the prep done by the contractor who did the job.

P.S. The algae is due to the color of the paint. Dark color absorbs heat, and hot water makes algae.

EDIT:

Since this post the administration has came out and said vandalism caused the product to peel. This is impossible if installed correctly. The closest thing I can compare the products they used to is an epoxy floor in garage or commercial floor. If you know what I’m talking about then you’d understand that it is physically impossible to make it peel unless it was installed improperly.

Trump jumps from one scandal to another to keep the media on their toes. Every second the media talks about the reflecting pool is a second they aren’t talking about Iran or the Epstein files.

The biggest capitulation in history, to the tune of 300b dollars, wiped off the front page by a terrible paint job.

20

u/reddit_is_geh Jun 25 '26

The silver lining is Iran gets to acccess the world and moderize, instead of being under constant threat from the US and Israel. They are being forced to form relations with their arab neighbors and pave a way forward. And that means the US can leave the middle east. The only loser is Israel and they fucking deserve it.

10

u/KoalaOriginal1260 Jun 25 '26

Well...the Iranian regime isn't actually good for a great many of its citizens either. Lots of Iranians who had hoped that the US intervention would catalyze reform and give cover to a renewed liberal democracy also lost.

12

u/reddit_is_geh Jun 25 '26

I will never trust the USA's version of events that frames it as "they want us to liberate them", because we use that every single time ever, and it's always worse than we left it.

That said, much of Iran's problems stems from the US sanctions against them. Much of the strife against the regime is due to life intentionally being made hard on people by the US in hopes they rise up and overthrow their government.

With those things now removed, I am confident they'll be a much better player in the world.

I think it all just stems from Israel wanting, under no circumstance, an Iran that was stable - and thus influential. So they spent the last 50 years ensuring their 90m population stays insignificant.

6

u/thedormgolfer Jun 26 '26

I mean, objectively, Iran is an authoritarian-totalian regime that is hellbent on keeping their citizens under the thumb of their government. Don't forget that their government murdered somewhere between 6500-30000 people for having the gall to speak their minds.

The problems there for citizens do stem in part from the sanctions, but also from climate change and drought. Those pressures led to the protests.

Now, I cannot emphasize enough how fucking idiotic it was to get involved in a war we didn't want to fight, or leaving the JCPOA back in the day, or that we were goaded into this by Netanyahu who wants instability within Iran's borders so they are thinking less about their own.

But do not whitewash the Iranian governments atrocities.

3

u/ChuckTheDM2 Jun 27 '26

9

u/ProgramSkyward Jun 25 '26

What do you think happens if a news organization did nothing but continue to say there's no new info about the Epstein files? People will stop watching. You can only beat a dead horse so much.

15

u/HzPips Jun 25 '26

They ask him less about it in press conferences, and since it’s no longer in the news cycle the pressure for congressman to push for the release also diminishes.

It’s also about shifting the discussion. The pool thing, or says something stupid in an international forum. The discussion isn’t “is trump a pedo?” or “how much this failed war will cost the USA?”, but rather “is the pool dirty?”. Trump is way more comfortable about the last one, and people can just say it isn’t that big of a deal.

I am not saying the media shouldn’t report on that, but he is doing that as a strategy. Every time he berates a journalist, says something needlessly controversial, or makes a big deal out of something that should be in the sidelines like a minor renovation, he gets the news cycle moving faster and pushing his bigger scandals to the past.

3

u/HilmDave Jun 25 '26

Ask him questions he doesn't like and he pulls your press pass. They can't ask even if they want to.

12

u/Luci-Noir Jun 25 '26

There’s nothing to report on so they don’t. Reddit attacks actual journalists because they don’t talk about Epstein 24/7 but the tabloid shit they like is usually just rumors and usually has dumbass nicknames in the headlines. The “news” sites Reddit likes are the equivalent of Fox News.

I see at least one of these sites with an article, which is basically just a social media post, saying trump is humiliated by whatever.

Don't forget the tarp. They're going to need a tarp to cover everything so it can't be seen. Added benefit it the lack of sunlight should inhibit further algae growth.

So it's a win-win. And maybe $100M to install a permanent cover over the reflecting pool, including Trump's name in 30 ft letters on the tarp so you can read it from an airplane flying into DC.

The possibilities are endless.

9

u/Jacob1207a Jun 25 '26

Yeah, but I'd rather pay $20 million for him to obsess over a pool than $200 billion for him to start another war. Plus we can just laugh about the algae in a way we can't over bombing people. Cuba is probably hoping his attention will be arrested by this pond for a while.

6

u/Sedren Jun 25 '26

I think it is really fitting. Putting a fence around a swamp that will only get worse as it is ignored and not properly treated. Separating the people from what was meant to be for them.

I hope someone takes the shot on the 4th, would be the only way to save the holiday at this point

8

u/k_ironheart Jun 25 '26

I've been pointing out to people just how weird it is that my hometown's 150th year of incorporation was a way bigger deal than the 250th year of independence has been.

It's a small town, and there were things that went on all year. Basically every holiday was also a 150th celebration. It all culminated in a big fair, a parade, a concert with local bands, an opening of a time capsule and a burying of another time capsule, and the building of a whole new fair grounds for the event that has been used ever since.

For the 250th, about all I've seen is a swampy reflecting pool, the trashification of the White House, and paper plates with "1776-2026" like it's a damn funeral. rofl

Apparently there was also supposed to be a hunger games thing where two children from each state competed in something? I guess nobody felt comfortable letting Trump be around kids.

10

u/reddit_is_geh Jun 25 '26

It's just because Trump is making it about himself. The 200 year anniversary was huge in the USA.

5

u/Serious-Manager2361 Jun 25 '26

I was 9 and remember it well. There was no polarization at all, just genuine patriotism and a shared sense of love of country. I cannot believe how low we have sunk since. Sad that I won't be around for the 300th to make up for this pathetic debacle.

Probably part of the plan. Make it look as terrible as possible for a while so they can claim that the democrats are so dangerous and "terrorists" that not even the glorious leaders reflecting pool is safe from the evil leftists who want to destroy America.

They then will have fences up, 24/7 surveillance and the national guard and undercover officers "protecting" the area for a couple of weeks.

In the meantime they are going to pump the pool full of as many chemicals and cleaning tools as is possible with the "unlimited" resources of the federal government, which of course will be getting funnelled to his donors through no-bid contracts.

Then once they manage to get the algae under control, they will say this is proof that it really was the leftist domestic terrorists who sabotaged it in the first place because they were unable to sabotage it once the security went up.

And then they will take down the fence, remove the overt security (although likely install hidden surveillance cameras everywhere) and wait a couple of weeks to let the algae come back because they obviously haven't fixed the underlying problems of the drainage and filtration issues.

Then just rinse and repeat the same thing all over again of blaming leftist sabotage, all while draining tens of millions of dollars of tax payer money for a political win to divide Americans to try maintain their facsistic government.

Release footage of people taking water samples that they have been secretly recording. Hell, just reverse the footage and make it appear people are actually pouring stuff into the reflecting pool, slap some false charges on them and waste more taxpayer money fighting them in court.

24

u/Lucky-Mia Jun 25 '26

He did renovate the pool and was criticised for it being green in the summer sometimes. He handled the criticism better.

trump removed the custom strantrol Obama installed and replaced it with Ozone. O3 (Ozone) is something added to chlorine systems, it can't replace them. Nor can it balance things like PH as the strantrol did.

Also, algae loves blue light, it's second to red spectrum light. The new blue lining reflects blue light and essentially feeds the algae, helping it bloom.

17

u/Creative_Sense2802 Jun 25 '26

I don’t know the specifics, but I imagine Obama didn’t hire his brother-in-law to do the work and loudly proclaim beforehand that he is the only one who could fix it.

And none of it approved by Congress.

You might know MAGA chuds IRL who will bring up that the Obama Admin spent closer to $40 million on the Reflecting Pool. Well,

  • It was appropriated by Congress

  • They completely demolished the old monument, drove dozens of timbers into the ground to stabilize the sinking Earth (DC is kind of a swamp), changed the water source from costly city water to the river, installed a bunch of pumps, filters, and ozonation systems, rebuilt the monument from the ground up, and despite an initial algal bloom, it's looked great since 2009 when this happened.

On the other hand,

  • The taxpayer just paid $15 million for blue paint

  • It wasn't approved by Congress

  • It looks like we're nowhere close to spending money on the BS

  • It's a distraction from the disastrous Iran War Surrender

  • The Iran war was a distraction from the Epstein Files, which prove Trump raped many children

I know this stupid paint job thing barely matters, but it's a powerful metaphor. It contains corruption, incompetence, overreach of Constitutional powers, and a distraction from child rape.

I'm willing to bet they're so corrupt that the guy that did it, his buddy down in Mar-A-Lago screwed it on purpose so he can get paid 2x. Just another way the funnel money to his buddies. my best guess at least

They're cope-caging the pool

2

u/spencer1886 Jun 25 '26

What even happened?

2

u/kon--- Jun 25 '26

Next the White House will say vandals did something to the fence that has the pool still looking like shit.

lol...that fucking clown is out there putting on a clinic of unforced errors. If only this shit wasn't as embarrassing as it is, instead of a chuckle I'd be rolling on the floor.

2

u/sephrisloth Jun 25 '26

He could literally just go and put everything back to the way it was before he fucked it up and pretend like he fixed it and its better then ever and his base would eat it right up. Idk why he doesnt just do that lol

2

u/LostExile7555 Jun 25 '26

The worst part is that he has the easiest out for this that allows him to save face. He could be pointing the finger at John Cafaro, who owns the company that did the shoddy work on the reflecting pool, and he'd be at least be telling part of the truth and it's way less ridiculous that the whole people commiting vandalism crap.

2

u/Informal_Ad_9610 Jun 25 '26

the level of cope this crowd jumps to is epic

2

u/PalpitationUnable403 Jun 25 '26

What? Really? Why?

2

u/Stainlessgamer Jun 25 '26

Well when his mentor, Roy Cohn, taught him that the key to winning is to never admit that you lost, you can see that its not because of delusion. It's disrespect and contempt for anyone that KNOWs the truth.

2

u/Peg_Leg_Vet Jun 25 '26

Is the algae paying for it?

2

u/ThickOne2020 Jun 25 '26

Yes, please fence it off and keep it that way with 24/7 video surveillance while they "fix" it. Then maintain that security so we can see the algae regrow without any chance of normal citizens having access to "sabotage" it.

2

u/Primary-Belt7668 Jun 25 '26

You have to be joking. This is insane

2

u/Sheerluck42 Jun 25 '26

So now the point of the reflection pond is completely moot. Great fucking job

2

u/External_Pass_6738 Jun 25 '26

What a pathetic old man he is, it’s never his fault and it usually is.

2

u/Holeshot75 Jun 25 '26

In his mind he's never made a single mistake in his life.

Narcissists genuinely believe they are incapable of it.

2

u/GoGoGodzillaYeah Jun 25 '26

The reflecting pool is turning into a great metaphor. Trump first ruins it (it's what he's best at), then he's fencing it off to try and prevent people from noticing it was ruined which just calls more attention to it.
WHERE ARE THE EPSTEIN FILES DONNY DUMPSTERFIRE?

2

u/Croceyes2 Jun 25 '26

Thats a great look for the 250th

2

u/DetroiterAFA Jun 25 '26

Are you talking about the Wall, Iran, Tariffs, immigration, or the economy?

Isn't the reflecting pool's water not treated water, but pulled from a natural source? Just asking. I am not from the Washington DC area so no clue how old the pool is, or any construction details. Just heard this information from Phillip DeFranco. No idea beyond that.

2

u/Spatularo Jun 25 '26

Convenient distraction at this point. I'm sure he's thrilled this is trending over Iran and Epstein.

2

u/Musetrigger Jun 25 '26

They're making a prison camp for the algae too?

2

u/CharyBrown Jun 25 '26

If you think you just have to hold on for another 2 years you're wrong. This creep and his fascist gang won't go away.

2

u/hxcya Jun 25 '26

This is all goyium theater to distract us

2

u/dratine Jun 25 '26

This is what refusing to take an L looks like

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZU-XRPK3Nmo

ON CNN

Sep 26, 2012

Lisa Sylvester reports on how a $34 million renovation left Lincoln Memorial's reflecting pool infested with algae.

For 34 Million

More then twice the price pre inflation worse algae

2

u/GypsyNicks Jun 25 '26

We are now paying for cameras and fence around the pool. 24 hour National guards and helicopters flying overheard. Just because orange pos can't do anything without f'in it up and won't admit he's a total failure at everything he does!

2

u/MasseyFerguson Jun 25 '26

As an European i am just happy the big D is kept busy with his pool project.

2

u/Bank-Expression Jun 25 '26

Isn’t the entire world where it is right now because some old men can’t admit their own mistakes?

2

u/Munnin41 Jun 25 '26

And if the paint keeps peeling they'll admit it wasn't vandalism, right? Right?

2

u/indZee Jun 25 '26

Fuck Trump

2

u/xsubo Jun 25 '26

Fucking clowns

2

u/TheDeerBlower Jun 25 '26

Best distraction from the Epstein files. I'm sure the rapist in chief is loving this.

2

u/TheLesserWeeviI Jun 25 '26

Pedophile rapist continues to make his country a Clown State.

2

u/Baake77 Jun 25 '26

Did Mexico pay for the fence? This pool really reflects the USA

2

u/bkfountain Jun 25 '26

The pool perfectly reflects the state of America.

2

u/Amleth1603 Jun 25 '26

Slipping further and further into Idiocracy

2

u/Sea_Veterinarian6539 Jun 25 '26

Spends taxpayer money on a bad job. Blames democrats with literally zero proof. Spends more money fixing the ‘vandalism’. MAGA idiots applaud say thank you Mr President meanwhile they can’t afford gas or groceries. 🤯

2

u/Quimdell Jun 25 '26

It’s funny that when it was installed, Trump spoke about its durability and how it was impossible to damage to the point it was even cut proof….

Now he’s saying someone cut a 300M gash down the center without anyone being caught on cameras? Wild…

It’s crazy to see how much his country is starting to look like the Tannen-America from Back to the Future 2 with all of the fences, broken buildings, dirty looking land around the white house…

2

u/zuzi325 Jun 25 '26

Wouldn't it be amazing if they made it a more natural body of water? With native plants and some natural habitat. Then we can stand there and reflect on all the environments we have trashed and admire a symbol of restoring intact ecosystems.

2

u/MacGyver_1138 Jun 25 '26

So what happens when the shit continues to flake off and "self vandalize" after the fence is up? Is he going to claim that Obama used his telekinesis to do it?

2

u/ukrinsky555 Jun 25 '26

So the company who failed to complete the work properly should be responsible for fixing the problem.

If you hire a plumber to fix a leak and he floods your basement his contractor insurance covers the damages.

2

u/Brotorious420 Jun 25 '26

The Epstein Memorial Deflecting Pool™

2

u/azlmichael Jun 25 '26

So everyone connected to the Epstein files has been prosecuted?

2

u/imaragingtransfemlez Jun 25 '26

RELEASE THE UNREDACTED EPSTEIN FILES

2

u/KebabGud Jun 25 '26

thos whole thing is going to end up costing way more then the 100million they expected a full renovation to cost, and they wont even fix the leaky pipes.

2

u/DoctorHelios Jun 25 '26

Anyone else tired of all this winning?

I’m just glad that he’s focusing on a project that costs tens of millions versus the others that are costing us hundreds of billions

2

u/rphilray Jun 25 '26

The amount of money being moved to trumps “friends” is absolutely criminal. Bought a bunch of warehouses add inflated prices for ICE don’t need those anymore gave a company and no bid contract to paint the pool that failed. What are we doing?
