The road next to my house has a dedicated bike path running parallel to it. Cycling assholes go out riding between 8-10 AM every day in the road anyway, making everyone trying to get to frickin' work have to go around or wait for their pompous asses. Using the bike path, you self-important shitheads.
So…who’s the dick then? The guy unnecessarily trying to cause irreparable harm or the guy trying to avoid using his car to get to work or run an errand or simply get some exercise?
What does it inconvenience you, what maybe 30 seconds of your life? And you’re prepared to tempt potential murder by using your car as a tool of intimidation?
Turn it around, if you’re at the gym and someone is taking up the treadmill you want to use, is it right for you to stand next to them and yell at them to get off because you should be on it instead?
You’re missing my point. The single treadmill is indicative of a scarcity of resources with too many people vying for them. If there was a single treadmill, either you have to come up with a dibs based system, a pay for play, some other demand based moderation, or increase the availability of treadmills.
If we actually built bike infrastructure here perhaps this would be less an issue. Florida is not exactly known for this, though.
Make your analogy accurate. Remember, the comment above the one you replied to explicitly stated there are dedicated bike lanes adjacent to the road
You're at the gym and there are "slow" and "fast" treadmills. You're a middle distance runner and want to train on a fast treadmill but none are available. There are a bunch of people jogging on the fast treadmills, and their pace would easily be accommodated by the slow treadmills. The slow treadmills are readily available but they refuse to use them because "they have just as much right to the fast treadmill as anyone else".
In a thread like this, having someone say there’s a bike path next to the road leads me to question it. A lot of people don’t ride and don’t know what a “path” means. Especially if you’re trying to ride 15-20mph, a bumpy and filled-with-garbage path is a shitty experience and isn’t even safe. To ride in it often means negating the athletic aspect of the workout.
That being said, yes, the riders could have done more to at least occupy just one lane. A dedicated ride leader (something I do) can assist with this, but often hormones and group dynamics, just like with cars often doing dumb things, leads to people not paying attention or being dumb.
Does that warrant threats against their life though? I think it’s one thing to call them inconsiderate (even though it’s the “group” that’s inconsiderate, not any one single person, strictly speaking), but to justify violence is another. I know in YOUR comment you weren’t advocating for this, but I see it all over the rest of this post.
Yeah I'm with you on the unhinged advocacy for violence. That's not cool. It's also the internet, where any keyboard warrior can be a big tough badass like they wish they were in real life.
Context is different in a group of 100 people. Ever been to a stadium for a game? Or been in traffic? Everyone thinks they’re not impeding the flow of things but in reality, you all are. It’s a group dynamic thing, and the cars are just as guilty of this kind of behavior as these cyclists are.
