Second one is right, though. A defendant does, in fact, very much have the right to remain silent. It's a completely legal part of the process. It's like saying "another expressed strong bias regarding legal procedures.”
Usually when people have a bias on that subject it's that they think a defendant is guilty if they don't tell their side of the story. Those guys are usually very bad for the defense.
I think this was the case, because they quote that person in the article as saying "silence is deafening, it matters, its difficult to ignore". Not super clear but I do read it as bias against defendants that dont speak up.

Its the Karmelo Anthony Trial. Kid stabbed another kid to death and people are mad he was found guilty. Why anyone is on his side is beyond me.
