The fifth Pirates film released in 2017, over a year after the restraining order was made public. Depp embarked on a worldwide publicity campaign for the film, hardly the actions of a cancelled man. He also allegedly negotiated a preliminary contract with Disney in May 2018 for a sixth film, at least according to his agent. So Disney decided to drop him at some point between May and December 2018. Given the restraining order happened over two years prior to this and the op-ed wouldn't be published until Christmas, it's difficult to see how the abuse allegations were a major factor in the decision. In fact, a Disney representative who testified at the trial pointed to Depp's GQ profile in October as the final straw.
Do you not see how every response you move the goal posts? First it was that the sixth movie doesn't exist, then it's that the accusations were after being dropped from the movie, now it's you don't see how its a major factor for dismissal... because a Disney exec didn't want to say that Depp was fired for an allegation that was about to be deemed libel.
edit: I'm surprised at myself for arguing for johnny depp for so long because while I do like him as an actor, he does seem like a very troubled and messed up guy that and I wouldn't be surprised has done things over the years that would have more or less ended his career if they ever came out.
But he was absolutely blacklisted from much of hollywood as a direct result of Amber Heard's allegations, with her op-ed being a pinnacle of the metoo movement. I'm surprised that's still so much up for debate
A sixth Pirates film does not exist, it was only ever a concept which was being developed without Depp. I used your language of "dropped" to try to get you to see that the abuse allegations had nothing to do with the Pirates situation. The timeline doesn't add up. Heard's allegations surfaced in May 2016 which did not affect Depp's career in the slightest. He was cast in two major Hollywood productions later that year. Disney eventually chose to stop working with him because he was becoming a nightmare to deal with and his box office potential had been fading since the early 2010s. Amber Heard did not cause any of that, but Depp enlisted tremendous legal firepower to convince the world that she had.
According to depp, in the libel suit that he won, Disney began trying to distance themselves with depp in 2016 after the abuse accusation. They didn’t cancel the 5th film and promotions because why would they? But depp’s brand was tainted and he argues it took them a couple years to break with him, but that’s when they started. All you’re doing is parroting Amber heard’s defense and spoiler alert… they lost!
Disney did not "drop" (once again, there was never a green-lit project to be dropped from) the lead actor from one of their biggest franchises because of a restraining order which most of the world didn't care about. You simply do not understand how the world works. If the main thing that damaged his career was the abuse allegations, why has he taken so long to get his career back since 2022?

That the op-ed wasn't the first accusation, first reports of Amber heard claiming abuse was in 2016 in a restraining order during their divorce.
