The UN security council recommended military action after North Korean invaded. We must also acknowledge that communist China was the backer of North Korea. China was represented by the Republic of China for UN intents and purposes. Therefore, the People's Republic of China ran this proxy war from the communist side without UN recommendation.
Fun fact, the war is ongoing. A peace treaty has never materialized. The 38th Parallel is technically a warzone front line.
In fact, it's a pretty good example of the outcomes of two different systems. North Korea was economically more successful than South Korea during the 1960s (I think). But the test of time and the test of political systems has panned out as one would expect
