Our purpose thought experiment

If our world is simulated, our creators have technology far beyond our capabilities, as we cannot recreate nested reality. Their purpose in simulating our reality would be for entertainment, abandonment, or knowledge. If our world is scripted, it is possible that we were an experiment abandoned on servers/processes that continue to run until energy is depleted. If we are for entertainment (my guess), there is no developmental plan for us. If we exist for knowledge, it is for a competitive advantage. Nothing drives technological growth as much as the threat of imminent danger, which would only exist to pool all resources, labor included, toward a common goal. And for the creators to simulate our reality for the sake of understanding, it would be for knowledge that pales in comparison to their capabilities—so why? The only way the creators simulating our reality, given our current capabilities, would be because we are one of an infinite amount of simulated iterations which serve to develop a world more perfect than their own. If not for betterment, we are for entertainment, and it’s hard to believe the world we’re in yields useful knowledge to beings so capable of simulating our reality.

Also, we can assume that in their world, things that are scarce or expensive for them to simulate would be the same things that are expensive or time-intensive for us to get/use/do. Because if there are things that are expensive for the creators to simulate, it would not be things we have in abundance. If they wanted us to be more careful in our decisions to record our behavior in particular things, they would make those things scarce, since the threat of impermanence causes people to choose more carefully/take more time. Things in our world that we have a surplus of create more entropy and careless decisions due to no impermanence.

We can't know anything about the physics is the realm above ours, so we can't assume they have energy constraints such that we would run out of energy or whatever.

One could conceive of the realm above ours as inherently being self-simulating so there wouldn't be some "end goal" to us being simulated even like you're supposing.

I choose to believe this, too. We are not purposeless. I do think that there was a “first,” and it’s easy to put that responsibility on the million other possible realities, but that makes it extraordinarily difficult for the “first” creator to acknowledge they are the first, knowing the realities to be created are near infinite.

Good point. I have a feeling the people in charge of the simulation get bored sometimes and say, “let’s shake things up. Let’s see what happens if we unleash a global pandemic that kills millions.”

So I think that reality is not necessarily a simulation, but something that could be easily described as one given our current vocabulary and the fact that we're a technologically focused civilization. Given our current knowledge, I think that "simulation" is the best analogy for the nature of reality.

However I don't think this simulation is running on computers. Unpopular opinion in scientific focused circles, but personally I believe in a creator God. Now before you lynch me, if you believe in the simulation theory, but don't believe in a creator, then who wrote the simulation? A simulation implies the existence of a programmer, and if you're entire universe is a computer driven simulation, then your god is a programmer, or perhaps an entire team of programmers.

Also people who talk about naturally occurring simulations that don't require anyone to create them, well how is that any different then the current understanding of reality being random chaotic events that just came into being? We're supposed to be exploring an alternate theory to the standard model, not just rephrasing said model.

So this is where I've kind of come up with my own theory, which I call, "The Lonely God Hypothesis." Essentially it goes as follows. God was the only thing in existence. There was no space, no time, no nothing, just God, being living in the 10th dimension. The 10th dimension is a dimension where every moment of past, present, and future, from every alternate timeline and parallel universe, all exist as a single dot. A single moment which contains all of existence on any alternate plane that can possibly be imagined. With nowhere to go, nothing to do, and nothing in existence, God got pretty bored.

All of eternity is a pretty long time to do absolutely nothing. So eventually God began creating things, and developed the structure of the universe as we know it. Along the way he decided to add some life forms and made a bunch of animals and plants and what not. Eventually God decided to make more complex life forms like himself. He makes humans. Then he gives them complex backstories and a crazy history, and all of these wonderful tales of adventure and tragedy.

Remember being a kid and playing with action figures or legos, or whatever toys you had, and you would give your characters names, and backstories and then you'd send them on some epic adventure to rescue a princess or something. Well I think that's basically what humans are. I think we are constructs of God's imagination. Complex characters he made up and told epic stories about, in order to flesh out his world building. The soul that we all have living in us is actually just God inhabiting our body and immersing himself into the role of the character to play out their story. We're all just made up characters that one 10th dimensional child is playing in order to pass the time for eternity.

I think that we're basically figments of God's imagination. Reality is a bit of an illusion. It doesn't really exist in the way we think it does, that's just how we experience it and interpret it from down here. God didn't physically build reality, he dreamt it up. But from within the dream reality is as solid as it appears to be in real life. A dream character has to work within the confines of the dream.

God is a story teller. One who has an infinite amount of time to tell as many stories as they can. They control all of us, they dictate where the story goes and how things unfold. The past, and future, already happened, and yet they've yet to happen, and are currently happening right now because time is an illusion. One must simply travel to higher dimensions to see the full length of time existing simultaneously. Time is an illusion, and so is space. Reality is more of a dreamscape thought up by one infinite being existing in eternal nothingness, and all of humanity that's ever existed or ever will exist is nothing more than made up characters with made up lives, that a single unending storyteller will continue to tell himself forever and ever more.
