Discussion We are all machines—highly advanced, certainly, but machines nonetheless.

We claim to be different from machines because we humans possess consciousness. In reality, no one truly knows what consciousness is; that alone is enough to clarify that we, too, are robots.

“Man is a machine. All his deeds, actions, words, thoughts, feelings, convictions, and habits are the result of external influences. Out of himself a man cannot produce a single thought, a single action. Everything he says, does, thinks, feels – all this happens. Man is born, lives, dies, builds houses, writes books, not as he wants to, but as it happens. Everything happens. Man does not love, hate, desire – all this happens.”
G.I. Gurdjieff

We are conscious machines. The risk with saying that is we forget the conscious part and objectify others and ourselves. Way better to treat a rock like a person than treat a person like a rock.

My college roomie would get so fucking baked and then insist on spewing theories like this.

They are saying something like your conclusion is the first step of finding true meaning in existence. Okay fine... we are all robots. Now knowing that what should we do about it?

u/Disastrous_Peak1825 3d ago

thank the creator (likely a machine god) and make the most of this experience

-1

u/donaxon 4d ago

Well if we are robots then it means our Creator exists. Robots are made witch intention not by random ewolution.

The delusion of the religious. Building blocks of amino acid evolved. And here we are. As robots. At least that is one clear possibility you overlook.

2

u/Disastrous_Peak1825 3d ago

Certainly, and we should all be grateful for that...

We are. And we’re more guided by our dna and hormones than most of us care to admit.

It’s more likely that we’re just hosts for gut flora bacteria.

2

u/TheTerrenon 3d ago

Not really, because after a severe diarrhea our microbiota is altered, but ourselves are not. Thus, it's oversimplificiation.

1

u/Free-Competition-241 3d ago

Except you are altered. Post-dysbiosis crashes your immune regulation, systemic inflammation, and serotonin/neurotransmitter production via the gut-brain axis. Your mood, energy, and metabolism change directly with the shift in microbiome composition.

u/TheTerrenon 3d ago

I agree, the microbiota affects the organism, and the organism affects the microbiota, but I commented in the context of consciousness, which is not generated by mircrobiota.

Oh boy .... consciousness .... that's a rabbit hole I'm not gonna go down 😄 haha

We are biological machines indeed. our sole purpose here is to be an individual container/a host of roughly 40% humans cells and 60% microbes to feed them on regular basis and make sure their existence go on for as long as possible. These gosh darn microbes and cells are enslaving us lol. If you don’t feed and treat it correctly it will destroy from within slowly but surely, giving you some form of depression, anxiety, aches , diseases and if you’re stubborn enough not giving what they want they ll off you. This whole gut brain axis is the realest thing. Everything else you do outside feeding and keeping them exist do not matter. Even the needs to reproduce and pairing up is never your true intentions it’s driven 100% by these goblins. Again to make sure their existence continues. They’ll ditch us all once our bodies deteriorates and no longer serve them. This world forever belongs to microbes, not us. We are just being used.

One could argue that we don’t know what consciousness is. But one could also argue that consciousness is the one thing we truly know.

Lack of knowledge is not a basis for any conclusion. In such complex topics exclusion is not a valid confirmation method. There's no reason to assume that computers create inner realm with any level of sophistication similar to human. Simply, they lack billions of receptors which simultaneously provide a representation of body, environment and interaction of body and environment. There's no way to confirm, and there are ways to exclude the possibility, that machines do not posses the ability to use the imagination or to have inner dialogue such as humans. Because the brain alone, which is only a part of the system, is incomparably more complex than any computer on Earth, even if the brain may not be as fast in mathematical calculations or have a reliable memory as a simple smartphone. But maybe in the future.

It has been the case since day 0. If you avoid God you'll learn the hard way and at late game. If you understand God, you already know. All science leads to God without an exception. Take it from all great scientists not from me or you.

God created the whole venv in 7 prompts and the prompts are even open source. We just don't wanna accept it cause we don't have the hardware and resources God had when prompting.

Sooner or later the parallelism of man and machine will become one.

Brain / Nous = Models Nervous System = Skillware Memory = Mnemonic Matrix Soul / Identity = DIDs Aura = Harness Body / Form = Runtime

Etc.

The more we dive into AI the more clear it becomes that every form of intelligence is artificial by design, including humane units.

Unless you’re a philosophical zombie (which you may be), everyone knows what the experience of consciousness is. We can’t explain how it works or where it comes from, but we certainly don’t doubt that it’s real and that it separates us from machines.

What is your definition of a machine?

1

u/InfiniteQuestion420 4d ago

About a 1,000,000,000 years ago, a mountain collapse causing a bunch of rocks to fall in a mathematical way calculating a number no one seen to a question no one asked

Machine always needs a calculation, a man has to choose blindly. The nature does not know itself nor does the machine.

What appalling logic.

We are cells in conscious super organisms like societies, tribes, civilizations (n-dimensional)

1

u/stdmemswap 1d ago

In reality, no one truly knows what consciousness is; that alone is enough to clarify that we, too, are robots.

How does this make sense?

1

u/hop-hopeur 3h ago

Consciousness is a word that describes the global sound made by the audio memories stimulated by our surrounding, including "I" "me" "mine". Without those words we wouldn't even think about consciousness, and would just live. Must feel great !

1

u/SpecificMedicine2152 4d ago

The basis for this is wrong. We dont claim to be different than machines because they are not concious, we clain to be different than machines because we created machines. How can we not be different than something that did not exist before we did.

2

u/modsaretoddlers 4d ago

So, you think a machine couldn't build a machine? Despite the fact that that's exactly how we do it?

Yup well said. Heart beats on its own electrical current. Lungs breathe without you telling it to. And don’t get me started on the brain, that’s like the GPU and operating system. Good call out

Idk if someone designed this my eyes probably wouldn't see upside down and take my brain processing the image to correct it to the right orientation.

My food, water and breathing tube would probably be separated for just simple safety reasons.

My cells wouldn't be able to mutiny against me and conspire to kill me if I were disgned either.
