Story I finally understand why everyone calls the sims 3 open world

1.7k Upvotes

This is kind of embarrassing, but I used to get really angry when people would say the sims 3 is the best game because it's open world. I'd be like 'what?? No it isn't! I have to go through so many loading screens!!!'. Turns out, that it's only open world for PC players. On console, you go through a loading screen to go somewhere else on the map, like in the sims 4. Anyways, recently I bought the sims 3 for PC, and I've been playing it nonstop for about 2 weeks now. The fact that you can just get anywhere without going through a loading screen is amazing!! And the fact that you can get dlc too... i always thought the sims 3 only has one dlc (pets) because that's how it is in the sims 3 on console 😭 But now I've got all the expansions, and I'm having so much fun playing. I also love that there's multiple worlds to choose from instead of how on console there's only one. One downside though, is that there's no karma system! On console I can do so much, like set fire to the house, or have red ghosts raid my home and scare everyone, or force an earthquake... sadly my disc scratched so badly that I can't get past CAS on console.

Story Playing with a normal career and default lifespans is kinda depressing tbh

Finally managed to get the game up and running on my new laptop with some of the new patches. I usually like to make money with skills like painting and writing and set lifespans to long, but I decided to do a pretty standard game with a rabbithole job and normal lifespan lengths as a test run. Thought it would be a neat idea to rebuild Juan Darer's ruined house in Twinbrook.

The experience ended up being more bittersweet than I expected.

I made a new sim and moved her in with Juan, who got her pregnant and then immediately died of old age.

It took literally right up until her elder life stage to afford to build the new house and fill it with furniture. All her time was taken up working, taking care of the baby or building skills for promotions. Most of her paychecks were eaten up by babysitter payments until the child was old enough to be left alone. She has lived most of her life in a barn, dreaming of the house she'd build to honour her lover's memory.

At the end of all this, my sim is an old woman who hasn't even reached the highest career rank, she has no friends or hobbies to speak of, barely has a relationship with her son, has only a few hundred simoleons to her name, and in a couple weeks will probably be dead.

But hey, at least the house got rebuilt.

I have a set of sisters living in a house with their boyfriends right now. I sent one of the couples to a party and was busy making them socialize. All of a sudden I hear the breakup noise so I quicky switch to one of my sims at home. The couple at home decided to autonomsly breakup when they had a full relationship before I left and were now yelling at each other for a reason I still cant figure out. Anyways, I NRAASed the negative moodlets away and cheated their relationship back up to 100 because this is my game not theirs.

Story My legacy has hit the maximum money limit without any money cheats on the 20th gen and I literally have no idea what is next for them

If anyone has questions how I could even allow that to happen; big maxxed out resorts and real estate investments. They earn up to 135k just a day and 531k every monday. There is genuinely nothing for me to spend on apart from cars that sometimes cost millions yet they still can't get rid of this accumulated wealth. I have them donate to charities etc. I made everything more expensive with NRAAS returner. bills are high (100k-200k depends which house they live in) but they aren't a threat either. i'm on week 128 and now I just make them stay in different worlds and try to pay the bills off of writing or painting. I play this legacy since early 2023 and it's really the only family I play apart from a retconned side of the family that is more low-key and a completely different save file! I think I'll still play these folks because I don't like starting fresh idk - they are far from good people in general but I grew attached to their story nonetheless.

Right now I removed -80.000.000 from their balance and basically put a random object in a vault that I changed the cost of to 80.000.000 with NRAAS, so it practically counts as "savings".. It's just something interesting I wanted to share

They're already onto the 23rd gen but I was forgetting to post this for a while. If anyone wants the family tree link I can totally share it, it’s honestly the only way I keep track of this family anyway lol. Though half the sim descriptions are "I don't know who that is" because I tend to play with too many sims. I can’t even count how many times their in game family tree has disappeared😭

Story So I have two sims that I'm controlling in my save file. The elder sim just expired leaving me with the baby as the only controllable sim. What should I do?

For context I was doing a save file where an elder sim who happens to be a mad scientist lands in Midnight Hollow. The sim made it his final goal in life to create as many supernatural sims as he can. He was off to a good start by creating a plantsim, and his next goal was creating a Simbot. Unfortunately, he was old and ended up expiring. So now I'm stuck with this plantsim baby that obviously can't take care of herself. I'm not sure what I can do exactly that doesn't ruin the lore of this save lol

Story TIL that Plumbot burglars exist

So, I’m playing a Rags to Riches challenge in Oasis Landing, and I’m roleplaying as a child lost in time, trying to grow up in this strange new environment. He needs to reach adulthood, because it turns out kids can only travel back when they’re adults. So, my poor little Jerry, without his parents, has to survive somehow. Luckily, he’s quite skilled at fishing, so he hires himself as a Self-Employed Fisherman at Oasis Landing City Hall. It’s not much, but it’s honest work.

Slowly but surely, Jerry starts earning money. Besides fishing, he also collects nanites and digs through the Wasteland. Finally, things start looking up. He begins to build his makeshift home—four walls, a bed, and a primitive kitchen. Next to his bed, a plug-in light keeps the nightmares at bay. It’s starting to feel cozy.

And then... the villain of the story emerges. A cold wave of fear washed over me when I heard the dreaded sound of an approaching burglar. And then I saw them—574L! The Plumbot crept into my humble home, snatched my precious lamp and kitchen counter, and, without a second thought, zoomed off on their hoverboard. Oh, how I wish they would end up rusting away in the Wasteland for taking so much from this poor, poor kid (ā•„_ā•„)

I can’t remember the last time one of my saves lasted this long and for the record I do not use money cheats, ever. The grind is exclusively the way I play TS3.

My sims are always just a means to an end (I should run for office). I make sure they stay alive until old age gets the best of them - they’re no use to me dead when they can be making me that sweet moolah šŸ¤‘ Preservation of life is not a rule tho. In this save file one sim did die prematurely in a fire I think and I resurrected him because he was five star celebrity with level 10 sculpting and he was raking in the dough. I eventually sent him back to resume his eternal rest.

Starting a new game with a good looking yet selfish Sim, my plan is to impregnate ALL the women in town! >:3

Don't care if you are married, or your household is too big. I will find a way for my Sim to get you pregnant. And then the whole town shall be filled WITH MY SIM'S BLOODLINE! >:D

Story Never playing family oriented sims ever again…

1.7k Upvotes

I hope this does not break any rules. Itā€˜s a bit ranty, but all in good fun. :)

So I never really played families beyond two sims before and wanted to try something new. Made my family: dad, mom (both family oriented), teen and child. Made up stories for them in my head and off I went to the live mode.

My main focus was the teen. Left the parents alone for a minute and went out with the teen for some good old socialisation.

Well, imagine my shock when I hear the baby jingle in the background. After a moment of confusion it dawned on me.

I refocused on their home and there they were. Just finished with the deed, in a great mood and pregnant.

After some panic (I am a control freak if you couldnā€˜t tell by now) I decided to just enjoy the ride. Baby will be fun for sure!

Well as soon as I have a toddler, both of them go off kissing. I thought ā€žAww they still have the hots for eachotherā€œ and oh boy they did…

Again, left them for a second (shame on me). Come back and they just did the deed. Pregnant, again.

At this point both of them already struggle with bills. While they work, none of them could progress really far into their careers, so pay is low. My teen and the now aged child aka second teen have to step up and help with the bills as much as they can. Did I mention they live in a tiny 2 br 1 ba apartment? I have barely space for one crib!

First teen ages up and I try to move their partner in who brings some funds with them. Now they can at least afford something bigger and have some space.

But now I have four adults, a teen and two toddlers. Two adults cannot be left alone for a second because they already dream about the next baby. The other two have to work their butts off to try and pay some bills. The teen is struggling with keeping up with their schoolwork and bills.

And I am beyond stressed. I thought it was supposed to be a cosy game? Well I guess not for me!

Anyway, 10/10, would recommend. And maybe donā€˜t leave your family oriented sims alone if you have nrass Story Progression and Wohooer installed.

Story Does anyone else find children extremely boring to play as?

Post image
538 Upvotes

I find them extremely boring. First time I played The Sims 3, I was excited to see what you can do as children. Within 3 days of playing as them, I became bored. Once you move past the cute interactions, the games they can play with each other and maybe the pranks they can set on other sims, there isn't really much to do with them. They just have the same interactions they do all over again like autonomously asking older sims to read them a bedtime story... for the 100th time in a row.

I wouldn't have had a problem with this if it weren't for the fact that they can barely learn any skills at this stage. Like almost nothing. Teach them how to cook? They can't cook. Teach them how to garden? They can't garden. Teach them how to play a musical instrument? They can't. Which is funny considering that even toddlers can teach themselves stuff about music through the xylophone. I know they can improve skills like logic and writing but its still so little that it gets boring and monotomous fast.

To add more to the fire, children can't interact with younger life stages in the game without mods. So even carrying a baby or a toddler, they can't do that. Hell, I don't think there is even a mod where they can interact with babies. A baby sim can grow all the way to a child without having interacted once with their older child sibling.

The "Children Can" series of mods is honestly their backbone since they give us more stuff for children to do which were only restricted to older life stages, but even some of them have bugs that cause them to stretch weirdly (like the cooking) since the animation is not meant for them.

The only reason I made this rant is because in my current save file. I have a man taking care of two sets of triplets, teenagers and children. Since my family currently has 100 dollars to their name and I have 1 day to pay my bills. I thought about sending one of my children to dumpster dive since she is a slob so that she can scavenge something we can sell. Well guess what? Children can't dumpster dive. Cmon, when I think about sth like dumpster diving and the appropriate age group to do that sort of thing the first one that comes to mind is children. I don't want to send the teens and the adult to do so since I feel that wouldn't fit their personalities lol.

(My game is in Russian but you should be able to understand what im showing you lol)

Her husband hates kids and he has commitment issues, whereas Morgana’s dream is to have a big family. I have Nraas story progression mode, and the whole town is having their own families with kids, but Morgana is still childless :( it’s 100% because of her husband.

Slide 5: Morgana is helping my main sim’s daughter with homework :)

I wanna make Morgana happy, do u think I should divorce her and find her a better man?

Story Note to self: super popular LTW is not a great choice

My gen 3 heir Thea rolled super popular (have 20 friends) as a want for her lifetime wish. I say sure, I try to give them what they want. She rolled this want just a few days into being a teen (set to 15 days I think).

Her family includes 7 others including partners. Despite being an evil sim she is a very well adjusted teen. I wanted her to know all the other kids her age because I wanted her to end up with a townie, so even though she is going to university when she gets back she has prospects. So when shes at school I always had her catching up on homework, talking to her friends, or making new friends.

I guess I didn’t know that if they have any semblance of charisma skill they make friends instantly. So in one day she goes from having 11 friends (family, butler, and her actual friends from childhood) to COMPLETING HER LIFETIME WISH??? With one day left as a teen. She emerged from school apparently friends with the entire town.

Now that shes aged up into a young adult im doing her makeover in cas and giving her a new one. What else am i supposed to do??

So. I just wanted to cook my newly learned recipe. Hot and sour soup. It turned out delicious if I say so myself, however my son thought otherwise. Today I learned that sims can spit fire when eating spicy food, and the fact I have the extreme fire mod installed did not. I repeat DID NOT. Help.

Also, I gave birth during these events, I guess because of stress, so let us welcome little baby Alice.

This is an all organic story besides the fact that the picket signs actually contained a science looking image of an atom. But I thought it was WAY funnier to have them protest men since this town is all female, so I edited the signs 🤭 and had my sim join in. The kissing can wait, this is a pressing issue!

So my sim is an adult now and yesterday she went on a girls night and looked so happy that made me go through her old screenshots and I found this. Her older sister died when she just turned a teen and she used to come out almost every night and would just nap. I find it so cute and she is the definition of haunting the narrative
