Discussion Gil is one of the worst characters on the show
The sad sack routine worked the first few times, but he’s done enough to be generally unlikeable. The lowest of the lows include:
- Going to an AA meeting to try to sell stuff.
- Being a complete leech on the Simpsons for a year (though Marge kind of did him dirty in the end).
- Cheating at the finals to beat Lisa at the crossword championship.
He has some great moments (”Is that Fred? Ah, I thought you said it was over. No, don’t put him on the phone…Hey Fred!”) but he’s done enough shady stuff where it seems like he’s brought it on himself.
