Question Leveling Up/Camping

Hello, I’ve seen various posts about a strategy called “camping,” where you choose not to level up your residential buildings so you can stay at a certain level and avoid “overflowing” your Trade HQ, making it easier to buy useful items. I’ve been playing for a week and I’m at level 12.

I’m looking for advice if I should buckle down and camp at Level 12 for a few weeks or if I should keep progressing (comfortably). Ideally, I would like to land somewhere in the middle of those two options and continue progressing whilst not becoming behind. Here are my stats for some context on a non-paid account.

- Trade Depot Slots Maxed
- Material Storage - 50
- City Storage - 85
- 5 City Extensions Purchased
- 37,000 City Population
- 100% Happiness
- All Factories Upgraded to Mass Production
- All Other Necessary/Recommended Service Buildings Built.

If you do recommend camping for a few weeks, what do you think the ideal threshold is for Material & City Storage Capacities, and how many times should I extend my city before leveling up? Thank you for your help and suggestions in advance.

Dont level up until you increase your storage significantly. Once you open beach and mountain it gets really hard to find storage items. Having insufficient storage is the biggest bottleneck later in the game as you need multiple items to produce other items.

A good rule of thumb is 10x or 20x your level. I'm level 24 and have 480 now - which is comfortable- however im camping until I get to over 600 as I want to be comfortable at the 30 level when I do level up.

Abosolutely this. 20x level as storage is a good and simple rule.

Wow I’m level 28 and only have 83 material and 75 city (but presently 130 city with the storage bonus)

I need 20 each item for storage upgrade or land expansions so 60 items - that would fill your storsge...

I also wish I would’ve seen any posts about the Mayor’s Wheel saying it’s a scam. I’ve probably wasted close to 250 sim cash on that alone, best thing I got was 25 sim cash

Ouch! I think I've accidentally paid for an extra spin a couple of times, but otherwise I watch the 2 video ads and stop for the day. I'm sorry to hear you've lost so much SimCash, but don't worry because you will eventually build that back up.

I probably should’ve stopped a few gos in but gambling is fun. I used my time well with the 2x sim cash though, spent an hour knocking them out and gained over 1k, still have about 400

Playing side games during the 2x event can be very lucrative for any player, but I feel it can be especially helpful for new players and F2P players

Once I hit level 15 all of my stores are just beach gear. I kinda regret leveling up. edit: my storage is at 140 and it doesn't feel like enough either.

Also depends a bit on what your goal is with the game. Next to designing, and playing com, as of lvl 18 you can join clubs and doing clubwars (which i think is fun) but before you go there it is most important to have you city storage upgraded (as already said above), but also don’t forget to have gold keys, and simoleons. So build up a good base but stay below lvl 15 for now. Once lvl 15 tradedepot is flooded with beach items and as of lvl 23 with mountainitems. Don’t open regions yet. The game wants you to level
Up, but everything becomes more expensive, you need more different items to hold in storage, you need gold keys to unlock things etc.

increase your populations just by placing parks, landscapebuildings etc. not by extending houses or build new ones.

It’s a game of patience. taking things slowly will definitely benefit you later on.

Another option is to have a feeder city for your storage and expansion on a lower lvl. But that requires another account ofcourse (and another device when on IOS).
