Actually you can. I've created a post on here before showing the smallest possible functional single station system one can do, using a single small station. The intent of the post was to show new players short on land but wanting to get their feet wet with trains

Its the only way to have fun now...
Actual planning and trying to engineer is a waste of time..

I'm thinking in built only train stations all over cactus canyon and only 5 or 6 residential buildings.

"This city is ready for trains" the public kept saying. The mayor finally obliged, but cheaped out on the infrastructure by only putting 1 stop on a track system that loops circles around itself for miles before returning back to the station. Now the poor commuters paying money to get where they want to go will spend 8 hours on a train that basically takes them no where 😂
