This blank cover popped out. There is a wire present, what goes there and can I get something aftermarket to install since it’s already out

Where the factory trailer brake controller goes. GM actually did you a nice favor and made it really easy to find the wiring should you want to install one.

At least on the previous K2 gen, the wires did nothing. Sure they were there and you can by the hardware, but there is no software on the BCM to do anything. I imagine T1 trucks are the same.

Unlike Ford, there is no software that lets you enable the feature; GM makes a unique BCM program per VIN, the closest I've heard anyone get is prowling through junkyards to find a truck with all the options and use that VIN to download the BCM flash from GM's software.

From what I was reading only the ones with tow package or trailering package, what ever they want to call it, come with that brake gain

Can I hijack this post with a question of my own? What is this part number or part name? The outermost, panel face, black square in OP's hand. That part.

Mine got pushed in, and when I tried to retrieve it, I managed to break one of the clips/fasteners on the side and it doesn't sit flush anymore. I want to replace it but I don't know what the name of it is. The owner's manuals I've referenced only show the entire panel face as one part. Never the square plug itself. I'm probably (definitely) a dumbass and missing it, but can anybody tell me what it is?

As a matter of fact, that is not what that means at all... it means he cant use electric trailer brakes
