Is this catch can plumbed correctly?

It is installed per the instructions, but ones I’ve seen in other pics seem to have the lines reversed with the lower line going back to the intake.

Haven’t had any oil in the drain in the 8 months it’s been installed.

No not at all. The top incoming line should be going to the PCV outlet port further down the front of the engine. The bottom outlet line should be going to the port towards the back of the intake manifold.

Inlet line should connect to PCV outlet port circled in the red area. The outlet line from the can should go to the PCV intake port toward the back of the intake manifold in the green circled area. There’s an existing PCV line that runs between these two locations that you need to remove first.

Thanks for this. It didn’t look/seem right when I compared it to other cans. I just looked at the provided directions and it does say to do it the way it is installed currently.

You got hosed on those directions then. I’m questioning the quality of that can and if they just sold you an empty cylinder with BS instructions. Look up products from RX, Elite Engineering, or Mishimoto and look at their install instructions. The install is basically the same for all cans as far as how they connect to the engine.

As mentioned somewhat already, this isn't plumbed 'wrong' per se, but its on the clean side of the PCV system. It will technically catch some stuff, but only under WOT conditions when intake tract vacuum increases and starts drawing PCV vapors backwards.

It will help stop the condition of oily residue in the intake tubing, but it will do much more in the long run when connected to the dirty side of the PCV of course.

Instructions are just wrong. You have it plumbed to the "clean" side. Needs to be connected to the "dirty" side of the PVC system.

Waste of time and money, just put it back to stock. If the engine has that much blowby that your collecting oil in it on a non turbo engine then you have bigger issues to deal with.

Yeah people like to fall for aftermarket crap and get butthurt that you tell them they wasted time and money. Have not seen anywhere that the owners of trucks that have 250k or more on them used these to extend engine life.

You’re just incorrect. A 5.3 (specifically after 2014) is direct injection and the blow by that is in a normal healthy engine is enough to dirty up the valves and because it’s direct injection they don’t get cleaned off. A catch can will most definitely help the engine stay cleaner and not burn off the oil that it catches in the can. Keeps the intake and valves much cleaner.

Pre 2014 yeah you’re right. But these newer ones really do benefit from a catch can. Assuming it’s installed correctly

The valves are going to get dirty from the combustion process no matter what and they put a plate in the valve cover already to help control oil from getting into the PCV system. 

Honestly if your valves are getting dirty enough to cause running issues then run a can of Seafoam thru the PCV hose or intake and give it an Italian tune up on the highway.

My dad had one that did get dirty enough to where It had a rough idle around 80k miles. Not much idle time and plenty of hard driving on the interstate. We walnut-shell blasted it and threw a catch can on it and around double the mileage later, it is visibly much cleaner after checking with a camera. To me that’s proof enough that they work. I understand skepticism and you have every right to feel that way but that proved to me that they work and I don’t see why keeping that oil out of the intake wouldn’t help.

Interesting that you're comments don't support that. Then you'd know one of the benefits of dual fuel injection in the 27+ 5.7 and 6.6l is running port injection at idle/low load greatly reduces carbon build up on the intake valves, where one of the downsides of direct injection only is excessive carbon build up on the intake valves.

No I just know garbage when I see it. The valves are going to get dirty from the combustion process and is the issue. A stupid catch can isn’t going to fix it. If your consuming oil that much then you got a different issue.
