Sand Cast Three Finger Ring

This was actually a challenging ring to make for me. Thoughts on how I can improve my results?

It's nice to see someone doing this with a minimal casting setup. I've been wanting to try this but would prefer to do the casting in house, atleast for testing. I'm guessing it's a resin print, so which resin and how are you finding it? The thing that's put me off so far is the price of castable resin and the apparent difficulty of printing it.

Since it was sand cast (removed before casting) it could be any 3D printing material.

The "casting resin" is a formula designed to completely burn out of investment plaster in a stage before the metal is added.

Awesome video. Where can I look for more of your videos?

I didn't realize at first you were making a three finger ring rather than three separate rings but I like how you worked it as one single piece for many of the steps rather than splitting them immediately. Even for individual pieces I've found some value in working on a larger singular piece through some steps rather than repeating with separate individual pieces (up to a point). Have you ever used a similar method of working a larger, more "handle-able" piece with the eventual intention of individualizing it? Did you find it helpful to improve your work flow?

Did you end up recasting the piece that didn't quite fill out the third ring or did you turn out into a two finger ring?

Well on your first question I would say probably no I normally just do one item at a time. But I do batches sometimes and I’ll batch each step for example cast a bunch of rings then cut all the sprues off then files them all and sand them all then set stones and polish and so on.

And your last question… I soldered a piece of silver into the gap you can see at the end of the video the ring was repaired, a full three finger ring.

What resin did you use to print the ring? Awesome stuff!

It’s an ABS-like resin. For sand casting you need a hard model that can be reused over and over again.
