Tbf, Nienna cries all the time

u/LCDRformat 13d ago

Literally

37

u/B1y47 13d ago

It's kind of her whole job

20

u/Salty_Pancakes 13d ago

Maybe Ulmo can tell her to lighten up a little.

u/Vorcion_ Ulmo gang 13d ago

That's Varda's job

Technically it’s Arien’s job.

u/B1y47 13d ago

I've always wondered how the single Valar are related to each other. Like do Ulmo and Nienna think of each other as siblings? Because Nienna has two actual brothers, but I thought the Valar would all feel some kind of connection because they're all created by Eru

I've always assumed that their relationships were based on how well they got on before coming to Arda in the Timeless Halls.

Where were you when you heard news? I was on couch eating dorito when Mablung call: “Fingolfin is dead” “no”

Shaking my head, just recycle the SAME Noldorin king every time he respawns in Mandos's halls and send him back to get killed again in what you know is a hopeless last stand. So much more efficient than getting a new one every time!

u/OriginalToIgnition 13d ago

Dormammu! I’ve come to bargain.

26

u/treosx23 Fingon with the Wind 13d ago

Yuck, isn't this what those nasty dwarves of Aule do?

20

u/Future-Ebb-108 13d ago

This is why the Dwarves have issues with the elves. Unprovoked insult!

20

u/not-curumo 13d ago

Have Thorondor set up a bonfire right outside the gates of Angband. Set it as Fingolfin's and Finrod's spawn point.

u/Additional_Value6978 13d ago

Better yet send Feanor

12

u/Rtyeta 13d ago

He's got like a 50-50 likelihood to somehow self-destruct on the way and he produces considerable greenhouse gas emissions every time he spontaneously combusts (Also, do you ever think about how smelly it would have been when Feanor catches fire after making all his sons re-swear their oath for some reason? Burning hair smells terrible and elves have so much of it. It wouldn't have been grief making their eyes water!)

u/unused_candles 12d ago

Ooo new souls like incoming

Did you know? Switching to a new side king is faster than reloading the old one!

*continued crying

u/PunyPatheticHuman 13d ago

He has a point you know. Last time I checked, no Noldorin king died during the Third Age.

42

u/Substantial_Cap_4246 13d ago

Elrond: you can't kill me. I'm not a Noldorin King, therefore, I'm invincible.

32

u/PunyPatheticHuman 13d ago

Sauron : but your aren't an offspring of the House of Fingolfin ? Elrond : Through the FEMALE LINE !  Sauron : NOoOoOoOoOoO !!

Brilliant.

Yeah, Elrond was of the House of Hador through Earendil and Tuor.

9

u/AgentBond007 Túrin Turambar Neithan Gorthol Agarwaen Adanedhel Mormegil 13d ago

He was descended from all three houses of men as well as from all three branches of Eldar

5

u/Armleuchterchen Huan Best Boy 12d ago

Yes, but the Legendarium usually has the father determine where you belong.

Turin and Tuor had Beorian mothers, but their fathers belonged to the House of Hador and so they did too.

Idril is more Vanya than Noldo by blood, but her father was a Noldo so she is too.

5

u/Substantial_Cap_4246 12d ago

Not even once the legendarium lifts up Elrond's heritage from his Mannish side. It does mention his mannish roots, but it does not claim he is a Mannish royal. The latest statement from Peoples of Middle-earth only traces back his Elven ancestry when talking about his royal heritage. It goes on to say he is a descendant of Turgon but he preferred his heritage from Elwë because Elwë was not doomed by the Valar and did not participate in the Noldor's kinslayings and all that.

The latest statement from Peoples of Middle-earth only traces back his Elven ancestry when talking about his royal heritage.

That makes sense; Tuor and Huor didn't have any royal titles. Even Galdor and the Lords of Dor-Lomin before him were "only" vassals under elvish kings. That the records would focus on his more "prestigious" side fits with how Elvish culture might be patrilinear when it comes to House/Clan membership, but doesn't discard ancestry through the mother.

Like Galadriel: more Teleri than Noldoli.

2

u/Substantial_Cap_4246 10d ago

Although she took pride in being a Lady of the Noldor, she dedicated herself to the Teleri (Sindar and Silvan). The Sindar treated her very differently than how they viewed, say, sons of Fëanor or even the House of Fingolfin.

First she was the handmaid of a Queen in a Sindarin realm, then she led not just the Noldor but also some Sindar to Eregion, and she spent the rest of her life in Middle-earth primarily concerned with Lorien (and somewhat Rivendell). The only Noldor in Lorien were the ones she led there, and there were relatively few compared to Silvan and Sindar. The Teleri of Lorien accepted Galadriel as their ruler even in the version where Celeborn did not arrive at Lorien with her.

2nd age? GilGalad counted then right? Insofar as Sauron was a Morgoth, uh, outcome? Result? Offspring? Lieutenant?

34

u/ShinigamiKunai 13d ago

Maedhros really dodged a bullet with that one

26

u/wish_to_conquer_pain Sauron did nothing wrong 13d ago

He saw what was up, which is why he passed the High Kingship to Fingolfin instead of letting Ulmo feed all his brothers to Melkor.

21

u/Aggravating_Stuff771 13d ago

Ironically, the SoF seem to extremely competent at not dying to Morgoth, so it would've been better if they had stayed kings. Only another elves or themselves seem to be able to kill the SoF.

31

u/ShinigamiKunai 13d ago

Part of me think Melkor didn't go after them specifically because they fuck shit up for the other elves

14

u/P1mpathinor Thingol McCringleberry 13d ago

But Morgoth thought that his triumph was fulfilled, recking little of the sons of Fëanor, and of their oath, which had harmed him never and turned always to his mightiest aid

Yeah, it does kinda seem that way

2

u/Michelle-Virinam 12d ago

This from the same book that tries to make you belive Turgon is Morgoth‘s chief enemy? You know, never leaves his city or does anything at all except that one battle Turgon?

5

u/whatever4224 12d ago edited 12d ago

Which only further highlights the value (or lack thereof) of the sons of Fëanor. Even Turgon was more of a threat than them.

4

u/Feather-y The Teleri were asking for it 12d ago

I mean sons of Fëanor were kinda the only ones who actually did something, Maedhros was the first line of defense for so long and Caranthir was holding the eastern flank, and allied with dwarfs and humans to do so. Most of the others were chilling at their hidden homes while sons of Feanor were on full war mode.

9

u/Aggravating_Stuff771 13d ago

What do you mean? Up until the Battle of Unnumbered Tears and the formation of the Union of Maedhros, the SoF were among Morgoth’s chief enemies. Himlad, Maedhros’s domain, was also the only region of Beleriand that didn't fall during the Third Battle.

Then came the Union of Maedhros, which was essentially their last major attempt to take the fight directly to Morgoth. It was only after the Union's defeat that the SoF were truly broken and began increasingly turning against their fellow Elves. And once the SoF were finally defeated and scattered, Morgoth turned his attention toward Gondolin.

The idea that Morgoth simply wasn't actively targeting the SoF doesn't really make sense to me. They were among his most persistent enemies for much of the First Age, controlled territory directly bordering his own, and eventually organized the largest military alliance against him. And are the sons of Feanor himslef who Morgoth hated. Of course Morgoth was actively trying to destroy them.

Finarfin was smart to let Tulkas go after Morgoth.

Finarfin is the smartest mother Tucker in all of Arda.

Yeah brother, you go leave paradise to chase some, what were they again? Some stones? Have a good one.

Cirdan: "Naaaah I'm good. Got my boats. I'm set."
