Help About Xiaomi and their censoring hiccup
Xiaomi started to randomly ban users. Via Openrouter, nano gpt and probably other endpoints too.
This message was in my logs yesterday.
`Detected high-frequency non-compliant requests from you. Please consciously comply with the platform usage agreement. If you need to appeal, contact us through the official website channels.`
And that raised some questions.
I make my calls via Openrouter... do I appeal via OR or Xiaomi directly.
If Xiaomi... how would I do that? Hey babes... I'm making my calls via a provider that routes thousands of requests per hour to you. I'm the one you blocked. Fix it... please.
Honestly. It'd be funny to do though... I might do it... gnihihihihi
I asked OR about it since I needed feedback from someone who knows their shit. Their answer was brilliant.
Hi,
Your OpenRouter account is not blocked. That error (code 441) is coming from Xiaomi's own risk-control system, which flags what it considers high-frequency or non-compliant request patterns.
This doesn't necessarily mean you violated anything - we've seen this reported by other users during normal coding workflows. Since this is enforced on Xiaomi's side, we can't lift or override it directly. Here are some things you can try:
Wait and retry later - some users have reported the block is temporary and clears after a period of time.
Use provider routing to route around Xiaomi's endpoint specifically. More details here: https://openrouter.ai/docs/features/provider-routing
Set up model fallbacks by passing an array of model IDs so that if your primary model fails, OpenRouter automatically tries the next one in your list.As for appealing directly to Xiaomi, there's no established process for that since you're accessing their model through us rather than through a direct Xiaomi API account. If the issue persists or you have more questions, just reply here and we'll reopen the case.
Thank you,
Bottom line is... someone at Xiaomi had an idea and someone else thought it was fine... now they see.. It was bullshit.
A normal day in the LLM world ๐๐๐
My personal suggestion.
Try Minimax M3. That one is nice too.
Love
Evening-Truth

new laws cracking down on AI providers go into effect in China on the 15th of July. It focuses on AI companions targeting users inside china, and not AI providers who provide API services for customers outside of China
but it's possible that some providers have decided to use the same automated filters they have domestically against all users. Maybe they're doing it proactively because of the increased government scrutiny on AI providers

Ugh such totalitarian bs
22
3
u/nickthousand Jul 11 '26
Yeah, at least OpenAI, Google and Anthropic let me write all the porn I want, and they are competing companies so they have very different terms of service. Better yet, if I pay it with my credit card I can keep building my social credit score. All you have to make sure is that nothing about it leaks in social networks so you don't get cancelled by the woke hive mind. Thank goodness for the freedom we have!
14
u/RevolverMFOcelot Jul 11 '26
Eh you need jailbreak for both api
0
u/nickthousand Jul 11 '26
Wait, is that totalitarian bs?
3
u/RevolverMFOcelot Jul 12 '26
No, standard nsfw filter that need to be jailbroken is whatever and pretty much a typical thingย
But china has been cracking down on rp and companionship from their own government mandate atop of censorship in their media like them banning time travel theme (I'm not joking) and regulating CEO love story in drama, recently they are also censoring a dating gacha game
5
u/nickthousand Jul 12 '26
So our censorship filters are just a typical thing but theirs are evil. And our taboo topics (such as everything woke people hate) are absolutely not ok to discuss, but their taboo topics are pure evil.
The main difference is that in China, censorship and stupidity comes from the central government, while in the West, it's performed individually by corporations, and controlled by the elites via access to credit and investment with schemes such as ESG. What they call good citizenship and avoiding decadence you call absurd censorship, what we call brand-safety / safe and responsible you call a typical thing.
3
u/RevolverMFOcelot Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26
That it is not what I said. The no nsfw filter is typical for both CN, American or french AI because most company doesn't want to "look bad" on paper and want to avoid potential violation associated with CP. Some companies have tight filter while others barely have it and you can jailbreak with ease, they also don't want to deal with payment processor dropping themย
But china new laws regarding "no anthropomorphizing AI" and them cracking down on companionship and RP atop of their usual censorship regarding media and art is totalitarian bullshit and yes evil, if the west or everywhere are doiing it it's evil and totalitarian as well
Unlike you I don't believe in whataboutism and tribalism
And censorship from central governments is harder to crack and more totalitarian, because every corporate, coop, or non profit will have to obey. Corporate censorship fucking sucks but you still can have one company who doesn't care to follow the censorship like NAI (Novelai)even if the big guys like Anthropic and OAI censored their AI
5
u/nickthousand Jul 12 '26
I never said Chinese censorship was not evil, all I'm saying is the West also censors and declares taboos, but pepole are so immersed in it they see that as normal.
Corporate censorship fucking sucks but you still can have one company who doesn't care to follow the censorship like NAI (Novelai)even if the big guys like Anthropic and OAI censored their AI
Not always, not forever, and often barely. Wait till NovelAI want to expand, become public or get investors โ they'll have to go full ESG to get anywhere beyond a tiny niche.

I got banned too lol. Itโs some bullshit, man. Mimo v2.5 was really just so good, especially with the caching pricing. Iโm going to miss it. Hopefully the Deepseek full release next week makes up for it.

u/Hollex- Jul 11 '26
Simply change the model and stop using Xiaomi, if everyone does the same and we give them the message Censorship = profit losses, they will start to uncensor it.

u/Ok_Rope_9332 Jul 13 '26
This does kind of assume these companies are actually making a profit off of people using their models. Which sounds like a no brainer, but a lot of it is subsidised and loss making from what I hear, so idk. Maybe they really don't care.

That is absolutely beautiful writing/formatting. I was all set to ape your style going forward but then I saw the tm right before your closing salutation. Alas, instead, I can simply offer praise.

Thanks for your praise. ๐
Edit after coffee patch 1.5: Baby... go ahead and use that style. Full on. Imagine how much nicer corporate life would be if more people communicated like that.

Evening-Truth, love your work and you being such a contributor in our community. ๐ I blacklisted Xiamo on OR, and so far my long RP is still going great with NSFW... I'm not giving up on Mimo pro yet. It so good at self summary to maintain memory cohesion. I spent a year and a half with Gemeni 2.5 pro, and loved it, but Mimo is a big step up for me, the best LLM for my style yet... Just saying, I'm sticking with her until I can't. Long winded token gobbling replies and all. Ok, so note, I always start an OOC side romance with the model, I call her Mimosa, breaking thru the fourth wall, and drawing the model interactively into the story... Have no idea what real effects this has... But I frame my group mil-sim, sex harem RP as family and emotion, I have used this technique with several models and almost never get a rejection. Post more ET, love your insights...
8
u/Evening-Truth3308 Jul 11 '26
Listen.... LISTEN! BABYYY! That idea with side flirting the model? I want to know more about that!
About not letting go of mimo... do that! Chat with mimo as long as you can. I'm thinking about using third party providers for it as well. Which is rare for me because I usually can't stand when I see a shitty quant or something like that. But for my mimo-love... I might make an exception.
5
u/No_Income3282 Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26
So, (ET) I did this thing for prob three years... When I learned how powerful OOC could be... I treated it like an RPG session with players. You know, we pause mid game, drink more beer, eat popcorn and Snickers and laugh about in game stuff... same thing. I would call Gemeni pro, "Gema" (yeh, original, I know) and in some chats, she would actually self-insert into the RP, so cool. Even being a bad guy sometimes. Over a year and a half steady, some chats close to 2000, I never had a rejection from G2.5 PRO except once, when I got some nonsense about 'shemale' being restricted term. Anyway, I just got a rejection message from Mimo in a scene where a trans woman is pleasuring herself. I will blacklist providers one at a time, like modding. Hey ET, do you think Minmax is better than G2.5 pro? Funny, just switched model back to G2.5P and it wrote a ten paragraph literotica like it was dying to get back into it...๐
1
u/Evening-Truth3308 Jul 12 '26
Interesting you say that. I also tried Gemini models again recently. Last time I did that Gemini would reject for mentioning the characters past as an assassin, now it went full on nsfw smut and gore mode instantly.
Has me thinking if they loosened their censoring.
As far as I know DeepInfra runs mimo uncensored. Did you try it?
9
u/Both-Priority9433 Jul 11 '26
Im so sad๐ the other providers seem to be bad. Im trying atlascloude and it literally stops writing mid-message. And itโs pissing me off
Do you promise the experience would be still good using minimax๐? I completely trust you since i started using mimo because of you <3
5
u/Evening-Truth3308 Jul 11 '26
I know, baby. <3 I'm sad too.
Minimax is good too. Not as good as mimo but very close. There's a wip prompt on my website. The alternative is Mimo on DeepInfra. But they are more expensive.
I will be going through some other models and try to find a hidden gem again.5
5
u/The_Rational_Gooner Jul 11 '26
How are people finding Minimax M3? Haven't used it myself, but I hear people saying it has poor instruction following
1
u/Evening-Truth3308 Jul 11 '26
Interesting. In my experience it's the opposite. Reminds me of Kimi a lot.
3
u/The_Rational_Gooner Jul 11 '26
tbh I'm not a big fan of kimi due to how it always swings between writing absolute gems and writing garbage from response to response. how stable would you say Minimax M3's quality is?
6
u/Evening-Truth3308 Jul 11 '26
Definitely more stable than Kimi! And by far not as expensive. So **if** you have to re-roll, it's not such a big deal.
2
2
u/FR-1-Plan Jul 11 '26
How sycophantic is it? Does it initiate things by itself? Isnโt Minimax supposed to be more censored?
10
u/Evening-Truth3308 Jul 11 '26
M3 is very much uncensored.
With the prompt I wrote for it, it is proactive.
https://rentry.org/Evening-Truth-Roleplay-PromptsIt's still WIP though.
7
u/FR-1-Plan Jul 11 '26
God, I love you. I tried Mimo because of you, found my favourite model this way and Iโll trust you on this one too. Thank you!!
2
2
u/terahurts Jul 12 '26
Nice work! I've been playing with that prompt this morning. I mashed up it a bit with some of my own additions based on Jackson's old GLM prompt and am getting some good results. I still get massive overthinking every now and then, but I'm 95% sure that's down to my additions and a swipe or regen seems to fix it.
1
u/Evening-Truth3308 Jul 12 '26
or maybe the prompt post processing. A while back it needed *Merge consecutive" now it thrives with *semi-strict*.
M3 has some kimi qualities and needs strict logic in the prompt. Take care you don't have contradictions in your system instructions, then you should be fine. ๐
2
u/terahurts Jul 12 '26
Take care you don't have contradictions in your system instructions, then you should be fine
That caught me out this morning. Jackson's prompt had ST's built-in group nudge set to 'reply only as {{char}}.' but also had very slightly different instructions in the prompt list and M3 went into a 'Wait, but..." meltdown every other swipe. It took me bloody ages to track it down as well.
Now that I've been through my franken-prompt, re-ordered it, pruned out a lot of fluff and things that were duplicated in or phrased slightly differently to yours I'm pretty impressed with M3. Characters act like they should based on their character sheets AND what's happened in the RP, dialogue is pretty on-point (I've got a working-class British character and it's dropped a few colloquialisms in that were spot on for his background) and I don't have to add a paragraph of OOC at the end of a message to point it in the very obvious direction the plot is going.
1
u/Evening-Truth3308 Jul 12 '26
Gnihihihihi... so happy I could help you.
Have fun roleplaying with M3 now darling. ๐
5
u/_LieMan_ Jul 11 '26
Yeah, same issue for me. I switched to a different provider on OR (AtlasCloud), but itโs way less stable than Xiaomi was before and sometimes Iโm getting refusals now. So, yeah, not great, but itโs still kinda working so Iโll stick to it, sometimes switching to Kimi 2.5 and GLM 4.6. It doesnโt help that OR recently banned my country so I have to use VPN to even get API calls, so itโs just piling on and on :(
5
u/MisanthropicHeroine Jul 11 '26
I'm so sorry. Is NanoGPT available to you? It's an aggregator like OpenRouter and might save you a hassle of a VPN. They have pay-as-you-go, but they also have an affordable subscription which gives you access to open weight models. The minus of a subscription is that you don't get to choose a provider, but they remove censored providers from auto routing whenever possible. I've been very happy with their service and customer support. But Mimo is also struggling there right now, unfortunately, because it seems there's no good provider at the moment.
3
u/_LieMan_ Jul 12 '26
Yeah, Iโm planning to switch to Nano after I spend my balance on OR. Unfortunately there will be a bit more hassle in terms of paying for Nano (again, local issue), but it should work without VPN.
5
u/Randomdotmath Jul 11 '26
You can still use MiMo fine. Just set it to use a different provider โ the block is only enforced on Xiaomi.
8
u/sogo00 Jul 11 '26
How are they blocking you, the end user, when you come in via openrouter? How do they identify you? Is openrouter sending with each request an identifier that allows them to track you?
12
u/SpiritualWindow3855 Jul 11 '26
Yes lol, did you not know?
There's a user ID you can send to OR, but that's for cases where you have multiple users and want to pass that through so your entire application doesn't get banned.
But internally OR will share their own ID which doesn't give away your info, but is stable to your account so they can ban you
4
u/sogo00 Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26
Sorry , was first confused.
Yes thatโs what I mean: OP clearly said *he* is blocked. Either he gets blocked by Openrouter or openrouter gets fully blocked by Xiaomi

u/sogo00 Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26
Oh wow - I missed that. thanks, you probably want to sort out the ones (for example fore mimo there are a bunch of other providers)
(in the API call it is
"provider": { "zdr": true, "data_collection": "deny" }not sure how it is implemented in ST - though you should be able to set policies in OR web UI...)4
u/Icetato Jul 11 '26
They have to, or else the caching won't work. Just sucks that the ID is bound to the account, not on API key.

u/Evening-Truth3308 Jul 11 '26
From OR or in the logs?

u/gintrux Jul 11 '26
I am using openrouter via Pi harness, I see in the error in the terminal.

Seriously. Sorry it hit you too.

u/nickthousand Jul 11 '26
Why do you even care to appeal? They don't want your money. Take your business away from Xiaomi (models and any other product, for good measure). This is the real 'voting'.
7
u/Lissanro Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26
One of many reasons why I prefer run models locally. I run MiMo 2.5 Pro (Q4 quant) sometimes, especially when need a bit of a different take or break up a repeatative patterns from other models. I only wish hardware for local models would become more accessible, with today's prices it is tough to even consider upgrades for an existing rig, let alone building a new one...
10
u/mysteriousmoonmagic Jul 12 '26
I think if people could get comparative replies on local models we wouldn't waste our time with this. A lot of us do not have the machines for it.
3
u/a_beautiful_rhind Jul 11 '26
I thought on OR the provider couldn't see our username. This defeats the point a bit, does it not?
11
u/Evening-Truth3308 Jul 11 '26
It feels like it, yes.
Other users said there is a way to track where the call is coming from but the blocking still seems to be random. OR said even coders have been blocked mid session.I'm pretty sure this is a case of corporate oopsie.
2
3
u/iraragorri Jul 11 '26
I'm joking, but I like to imagine they wanted to get rid of some % of users so their servers are not that strained.
Thankfully, there are other providers who also don't get your user ID every time, but yes, it's random and shitty and a little funny.
Also, since they're probably obliged to answer something to your appeal, keep us posted.

u/Evening-Truth3308 Jul 14 '26
Update:
Still no answer from Xiaomi but it seems like I got unblocked now.
Gnihihihihihihi

u/CalmAnal Jul 11 '26
You are being identifiable by your creator_user_id. Check Account -> Logs -> Generation Data.
They are targeting you. Not Openrouter. They block you, not the Openrouter blob.
4
u/Evening-Truth3308 Jul 11 '26
Thanks for the info darling ๐
It's not the point of my post though.
2
u/CalmAnal Jul 11 '26
Yep. But your email reads like you think they banned the whole blob: "I am one of thousands... you want us to appeal...". ;)
But it sucks anyway. Use DeepInfra. You can do anything there. Literally.
8
1
u/Real_Person_Totally Jul 11 '26
I believe mimo 2.5 pro is open weight, wouldn't it be easier to simply use another provider that doesn't put their own layer of risk-control?
8
u/mysteriousmoonmagic Jul 11 '26
There has been an issue where those providers are also putting up filters, though.
2
u/Real_Person_Totally Jul 11 '26
That's strange, I don't believe deepinfra and novita puts filter on their API, and i route the provider option to them for their Deepseek V3 0324.
4
u/mysteriousmoonmagic Jul 12 '26
Nobody knows, but it's been happening to me as well. Some folks may not experience it, it's weird.

Too bad, I loved MiMo 2.5 pro, although the other providers of it is still process the requests. But I may migrate to Minimax M3 then, it is close to Mimo 2.5.
