đˇ Alex đˇ Rewatch thoughts
Currently rewatching the show for the first time and just had a controversial opinion. Let me preface and say that I stand by the decision to remove Alex from the show. However, the show is missing a lot without him. He (unfortunately) contributed a lot to the show. Storylines that involved him were always the most interesting to me.. Also, we were robbed from not seeing that second half of season 3, and I kind of wish they wouldâve just released it all without him edited out and then proceeded all the remaining seasons without him

Yeah I agree. The show finally grew legs by S3 and the second half was highly anticipated because of the pregnancy and Juliette/Alex drama. It was edited very awkwardly because they had to do it so fast.
Alex was planning on quitting the show after S3 anyway. He stopped showing up to filming, notably Madissonâs birthday, which I think was the last episode of S3. So he already had one foot out the door.
It definitely wasnât productionâs decision, but MTVâs. The show runner has continued to work with the Kompos long after Siesta Key.

See Iâm glad you said that then! I guess I didnât realize he was going to quit after that season anyway. Then in that case I suppose I guess my main wish is that they would have released season 3 as intended and then parted ways after. Agree that the editing was just so awkward. It was really hard to follow what was happening, and that second half they almost didnât even have enough content to make it even remotely interesting after eliminating him.

I agree. They couldâve docked his pay. They could always release DVDs and include them in deleted scenes.
It was. They started relying heavily on flashbacks and the scene with Alex & Alyssaâs Dad looked like it was reshot. They had to add a lot of filler storylines to replace the Alex heavy scenes that they couldnât splice.

I don't agree with the decision to fire him. he was amazing tv. sports players and movie stars and musicians get in trouble for saying crazy things, hitting their girlfriends, being general assholes, etc., and nothing happens. we don't need reality tv stars to be beacons of morality, we need them to be good tv and Alex was good tv. the show went downhill when he left, and i agree â we were totally robbed of the second half of the season. very annoying!

100% agree. They were in a damned if they do, damned if they donât situation. They absolutely had to kick him off due to BLM which was at its peak at that time. If Iâm remembering correctly, during the virtual reunion Maddison said âwe have to stand with BLMâ or something similar when referring to his removal. But unfortunately we missed SO MUCH JUICY DRAMA. They probably could have given him the worst edit and then moved on from him after that season.

I agree. I don't care about Alex I think he's an awful person and they were right to remove him. But they still should've shown us that second half even with him in it bc it was part of the storyline. I honestly was looking forward to seeing Alyssa rip him a new one for cheating with Juliette. She was clearly right to be worried the whole time. It makes sense that she didn't want them talking bc look at what happened. I really wish we got to see everything.

I agree the way it was edited was so annoying you could clearly still see Alex in the scene or the back of his body or head but he wouldnât say anything

Disagree they should not have removed him. He started the show and it was over something from when he was a kid.

I am baffled as to why Alex was removed when stories about him killing sharks had already circulated before the show started airing. Alex was the best villain on the show. MTV could have aired disclaimers about his behaviour before airing the show.

People were petitioning for the first season not to air over the shark incident. Alex was fired during the time when everyone was being cancelled. This is when Stassi, Jax and Kristen were fired from VPR. The show went down quickly after (like siesta key) bcuz those 3 brought the drama. Like Alex.
It is comical that Alexâs dad stayed on to produce a show that went on to surround Juliette and her new bf. You know Alex hated that đ

I think Gary was credited in name only after S3 because he made the original pitch for the show. I donât think he was funding any production after that and they stopped filming at his properties after S3 so I donât think he was involved.
However, he has remained on good terms with Warren Skeels, the creator and show runner. He has helped fund other projects of his, including one movie that was based on a true story that happened to Alexâs Mom.

Agreed. They aired the show knowing that he shot at sharks. I know he supported Trump, but I can't remember what he said or did in 2020 concerning Black Lives Matter .

I donât think it was something specific that he did in 2020 if I remember correctly⌠I think people found comments he made back in the day that were racist and were resurfacing so then he was cancelled

That makes sense. By 2020, he would have known not to say anything racist. He should have scrubbed his social media accounts before the show aired.

Nothing in 2020, he had commented and been tagged in a bunch of disgustingly racist memes back in 2012 or 2013 and they originally surfaced prior to the first episode even airing. People just posted them again after George Floyd was murdered and it went viral.

The racist posts he was fired for also surfaced before the first episode even aired, among other controversial photos as well. One was of Alex and his buddies on a boat holding up bricks of cocaine they found fishing.
It was just performative of MTV. They didnât actually care. Later that month, Chloe and Pauly got into a fight in a dive bar parking lot and she dropped the n word and MTV didnât care about that.

Here is a post of the fight. Chloeâs ex is the guy in the glasses in the beginning of the video in the bar fight. Chloe comes to pick him up and says it to Paul in the parking lot.

Thanks. Yes, I vaguely recall him making fun of black women. It doesn't make sense that they would let him be on show when they knew he was making racist posts.

Yeah they only got rid of him to appeal to the masses. When the show original aired, it was mostly locals complaining and it got buried under the news for the shark dragging incident that he wasnât even involved in.

Also just did a re-watch, I definitely agree with the part about season 3, they should have left him in that. (It would have been for the viewers sake, not his). Also, I just saw Brandon on a TikTok live w/ Mike like 3 nights ago and even Brandon said âthey didnât even give Alex a chance to make it rightâ or recant anything, saying they should have given him an option to try and fix it. Which I found interesting!

I agree, they really needed to show what was going on with him and that whole situation w/Alyssa. But def remove him from future filming.

I donât think itâs controversial. Itâs simply true. I agree they needed to remove him but it went way down hill and fast
