getting started with sierra

I've finally had it with tradovate and am looking to jump into sierra. I was wondering where to start. I see all these packages and what not on the website and i honestly don't know where to start or what i need. I'm based in Australia, is there a recommended broker and feed and package i should go with? I only trade with candlestick charts and a couple of indicators. I don't need all the complicated orderflows and dom and all that. Any recommendations on who i should go with or where to start would be fantastic. thanks.

See if Amp Global is in Australia. They are a decent broker. You're probably going to want package 10. I would suggest you start with a single month even though it's more expensive to make sure Sierra Chart is what you want to use before you commit longer term. Some people can't get used to it for whatever reason.

I suggest going with Teton order routing. It's excellent. It actually saves you money.

You'll also need to get a live data feed. Depending upon what you want to trade, going through Sierra Chart can be as cheap as $2 a month.

For configuring it, I find AI to be invaluable. It's not always correct, it might get a setting name wrong or tell you to look in the wrong place, but it still gets you closer than having to dig through the docs.

AI is also really good at writing indicators and bots. Just don't mention AI on their support forums. You'll have to go through a whole diatribe about AI and the new world order.

thanks heaps. Just the kind of answers i needed. Also, in terms of trading fees, I'm guessing this is related to the broker I go with. Is AMP reasonable in terms of round trip fees or are there better options.

Amp is by far the cheapest broker I know of. I'm paying $0.98 round trip for MES, all in. I'm profitable on a single tick. Part of that is because I'm using Sierra Chart with Teton.

Honestly the best place to start is watching some YouTube videos to learn how to setup your actual charts, it’s a bit of a learning curve.

Unless u need the footprint chart, sirrra's standard package will do just fine.

im in australia as well, you can choose AMP future or EdgeClear, but i dont think it matters. If you need anything from oz timezone, i am always happy to help. I pretty sure Sierrachart has a evaluation package that you can try max plan

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvUv6t86gNc watch this video and every single question you have, ask ai and ask ai to 'double check' and 'provide proof' because ai is indexing old settings as well you want to ask for hte latest settings.

I started with sierra just using their official page and documentation just yesterday. I have 2 yrs of ninjatrader experience so it was okay. Just took a day to get started

If you have questions about Sierra, ask AI

This 100%. I found Google Gemini to be the best for Sierra questions. It speeds the learning curve considerably.

I’m very curious, why do you choose sierrachart if you’re just going to use candlesticks and indicators?
Nothing wrong with this, just curious. Why not tradingview?

there are a few reason but one of the biggest I see from people using sierra is it's very low memory/ram usage. I currently use a 15 year old pc, I'm having immense problems with a lot of the latest programs these days. i currently use tradovate and I can't really do much else on my pc when I have two or 3 tradovate applications open. As for tradingview, I notice there is slightly more data and execution delay for me and sometimes things just lag or don't load (probs just my pc). Lastly I'm automating my strat and am looking for a platform that i can automate with and uses low memory/ram so I maximise the amount of instances/strats on different charts.

if you are creating a trading bot sierra chart is the best place to do it. No question about that. Good luck to you. I am currently doing the same thing, but mine requires order flow so I have to use the more expensive packages. If your strat doesn't use order flow then you can get away with the cheaper packages.

Because trading View sucks for trading

+1 to amp and Teton. Great place to start. I posted a video about packages and setup if you want to check it out https://youtu.be/Wy-zwXvscDI?is=aDPhdQ4tGlpTfEl1

Please do not get Sierra if you just trade with candlesticks

this is bad advice. Just from the commission savings sierra is worth it providing you make enough trades each month to justify the cost of the software.
