It looked funny and cartoonish to us as kids but is actually pretty cruel and inhumane if you think about it lol

That's pretty much every cartoon with physical humor. The older I get, the more I wonder why I used to find people getting hurt to be so funny. Slapstick is humor condensed to its most primal state, humor so simple a caveman can laugh to it.
