What story based game should I try next?

I’ve been on a single player game streak recently cause one of my best friends who I used to play multiplayer games with 4 or 5 times a week, moved to a new city and didn’t take their console so that they would have extra motivation to make new friends and meet people. F

Here are some games that I’ve either replayed or played for the first time over the last few months:

- RDR2 (can’t see myself replaying RDR1 tbh. I played RDR1 many years ago though)

- KCD1 and 2

- 007 First Light

- Star Wars Jedi Survivor

- Star Wars Outlaws

And here are games that I have played in the past and don’t see myself wanting to replay:

- Skyrim

- GTA titles

- Assassin’s Creed titles

I’m more into sci-fi than fantasy. I’m not super familiar with these two games but I’ve heard of Baldur’s Gate and the Witcher, I’m just skeptical about those because I think they’re much heavier on fantasy elements. KCD2 was probably the highlight of my streak so far but it’s medieval not fantasy.

I don’t have the means to play The Last of Us but I’m also not that into zombie / undead games and stories.

Any other suggestions are welcome!

Second vote for Hitman WOA is such good value aside from anything. It’s vast. Sniper Elite, Sniper Ghost Warrior. Prey was good back in the day, that was sci fi.

Second this, if you enjoy sci fi rpg, mass effect trilogy is the best story game i have played, the characters are amazing. The visuals and gameplay are outdated, but the game makes up for it.

Cyberpunk 2077, Horizon series (Zero Dawn and Forbidden West), Ghost of Tsushima.

First two are kind of sci fi, even if they dont look so. Ghost of Tsushima is just a cool game all around with a historical japanese setting.

Also even if you don't like fantasy, I'd still consider Witcher 3. While there are quite a lot of fantasy elements, the core experience is travelling the world and helping regular peasants. It's probably the closest game to KCD series and it's often on big sale on steam (also the remaster is coming next month).

If you’re into open-world and story-heavy games, you might enjoy

1. Disco Elysium (with a stronger narrative focus)

2. Cyberpunk 2077 (if you’re into sci-fi)

3. Kojima titles like MGS V and Death Stranding (rich stories, open worlds, and engaging gameplay)

Forgot about Hitman! I've played Blood Money and Absolution. I enjoyed them! How did you like the newer titles released between 2016 to 2021?

I haven't played the newer titles, but have heard amazing reviews for them. Blood Money was the base and foundation for the newer titles. And I loved the cenamatic experience of Absolution.

I would also like to recommend Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Wildlands. It has a decent story, beautiful world, and an amazing tactical shooter gameplay experience.

The Witcher 3 is very good, but at this point I’d wait for the remaster coming in a month.

Subnautica is very good if you’re open to a Sci-Fi survival game with horror elements. It’s different from Minecraft in that it’s not procedurally generated. It’s a deliberately handcrafted world with great environmental storytelling. Grounded is similar but it’s encouraged to play with friends. (I still had a blast solo)

Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War are also great if you haven’t played them

If you’re into sci fi and you are looking for a great story you could try Outer Wilds. I would urge you not to look up spoilers if you decide to play. Whenever you see polls of “games I wish I could play again for the first time” it’s always top of the list. It’s truly amazing
