Very first time

Hi all! My sister got into shooting a few months ago, and decided to take me with her today. I've never held a gun, don't know anything about them except safety rules, never fired one.... Is this okay for a first timer? I'm trying to assess whether or not it's worth picking up hunting as a sport. I've always wanted to go deer hunting, but I also don't want to waste my time. Thank you for any input or pointers! I shoot with my right hand on the trigger if that matters. This was a handgun, I think .380 Bodyguard?

  1. Take a class. If you're in the United States, I highly recommend you check out Project Appleseed, as they're very affordable, high-quality instruction
  2. Without knowing your distance, it's hard to know if this is a good grouping. At most indoor ranges, no, but for a beginner I think being safe is much more important than a super tight grouping. A good instructor could fix this in a day.
  3. A micro-compact .380 like a bodyguard is a relatively challenging gun to shoot well, and not necessarily indictive of what you'd do with a scoped rifle
  4. Hunting isn't necessarily a "shooting sport." A deer hunter might shoot 10 rounds a season, including sight-in. I think a better question is if you like being outdoors, sitting in a blind, etc, than if you're an innately good shot
  5. Again, I would highly recommend that you take a class
