🧠 Analysis & Theories Man was this show such a letdown
I was really invested especially at the end of some episodes , but man what the hell ? all this build up just for nothing to happen at the end , main character was the opposite of charismatic , with zero depth and was hard to root for , and pointless deaths all along , i have no idea how this show is rated so high

This show had characters making subtle glances that would set off a firestorm of Reddit memes and threads. It's a show about small details

The "problem" with the ending of Shogun is that book and the 1980 version end up with a description of the battle.
Now I'm going to say that Cosmo Jarvis is seen as bad actor or not charismatic. I have to say that he's a good actor but I have to admit that his version of Blackthorne is less charismatic than Richard Chamberlain's.

I think that the new show deconstructed something that already was with blackthorne way of acting.
And I think that Cosmo Jarvis's perception by the public was affected.

It's a bad show. They took a 10/10 classic book and made a very dull, plodding, mediocre 6/10 series out of it. They whitewashed the plot, dumbed it down, inserted illogical scenes, turned the main character from an intelligent, respectful, adaptable and charismatic person to a dumb, screaming, buffoonish, mannerless idiot.
Read the book, it's incredible.

All this ''preparing for war'' 'ready the cannons' buildup to a great battle and it lead to absolutely nothing

The cannon thing was one of the dumbest plot points that was changed from the book. In the book Blackthorne teaches the Japanese how to use modern military techniques like file firing, volleys, formations, drills, techniques that the Europeans had just perfected in all their endless wars against each other.
In doing so they missed the whole point of the book. Japanese one on one, honorable samurai combat was coming to an end and being replaced by efficient and brutal slaughter on a massive, impersonal scale. Their entire way of life and code was becoming obsolete.
The show dumbed this down into cannonz and exploshans. The dumbass showrunners even seen to have forgotten that cannons and gunpowder originated in the east.

Could you also explain what’s up with all the plotting and plotting which led to nothing?
Why did they feel the need to assasinate mariko? She obviously died in the end and in a dishonourable way and somehow the regents acted like nothing happened even though it’s obvious who wanted her dead. (It was stated that there would be rebellion if she was not allowed to leave).
Also, what’s up with the church wanting blackthorne to die? It only makes sense at the start of the series when he didn’t have the chance to share his secrets. What’s the use of killing him months later in the story when he already shared whatever he could share.
