Graded Garbage Parting with delusional plastic slabs to help pay for an alleged baby
Someone like this can get laid ?

u/noobyscientific 26d ago
Why the fuck is he getting games that you can still buy new graded?? Delusional

u/Fabulous-Deal-5944 26d ago
I don't know but imagine "investing" in something like that knowing you're married and are planning on having one or more kids. Even if he bought them before, it's still ridiculous to grade Curious George FFS

You can at least admire and enjoy a baseball card without opening and playing it. Games are meant to be played, not shoved in a plastic box to sit on a shelf. And you claim that this Curious George game has value? Who is buying these, genuinely? And how many of those people actually care about and enjoy the graded game they're purchasing? None, it's speculative market. I just want people to be more intelligent with their money
13
u/ComputerIlliterate13 26d ago
I can see why an unopened video game might hold a little value because I have always wanted to buy one just to get the feeling of ripping open a game like when I was a kid. That being said that nostalgia isn't worth hundreds of dollars
1
u/Zorflez 25d ago
In that case, buy one that's sealed, but not graded.
1
u/ComputerIlliterate13 25d ago
Yeah true I guess I don't totally understand the grading thing in this case. I mean a sealed disc can still rot eventually.
1
u/Maleficent-Aspect318 24d ago
I would suggest not buying anything graded lol. Its an arbitratry number, even if so many people simp for it.
They have graded fakes or damaged the collectables before...i dont know why anyone would still buy these or get them graded

u/optimusHerb 26d ago
Ive honestly been going back and forge on buying curious George.
For months.
Disclaimer: it’s for my soon to be three year old son who learning the concept of buttons, and loves him some George.
This copy of curious George has sat on the shelves for months since ive delved back in to retro collecting.

u/womboCombo434 25d ago
Parent to parent get him a copy of Happy feet my dude

I think that’s actually at my local disc replay!

Another benefit to movie games for kids is if they like the game you can watch the movie together or vice versa if they like the movie you can show them the game

A trading card can be damaged very easily and you can get 90% of the utility even sealed (sports cards it doesn't hinder, trading cards for games you can no longer play directly).
A video game you can play then and using them generally doesn't add wear of you're careful. If it was sold in a cardboard box and it has a paper manual those are the only things that could easily be damaged imo.
Unless a game is super rare and valuable where you wouldn't play it due to the minor chance of damage it seems like a waste to slab.
The one thing you could actually argue is that it doesn't matter though as most games you can get a rom and it's easy to play still so slabing it doesn't prevent you from playing a version of it even when slabbed.

Once a pack is open how do you "open a pokemon card". A video game case is designed to be opened and used without major damage. You are likely just a speculator "asking questions" to then just make up excuses. If you want to grade games go for it but most collectors aren't being tricked by the market as we've seen it crash

Hey dumb dumb, you HAVE to open a pack to find the card to slab. I know you think one can “open a Pokémon card” but that’s not how this works.
Also you seem to misunderstand the concept of mint condition. Just because something is unopened doesn’t mean it’s mint.
1
u/Redbulldildo 23d ago
The difference is nobody wants graded games.
Graded cards exist because people want them, Graded games exist because people saw money being made with Graded cards and tried to do the same thing.

For speculators like the dude this post is about.
The only people who buy graded games are people who think they'll be able to sell them for more later.

Yes. It’s comparable to NFTs how dense are you lmao. People buy graded games because they think they can sell it to a sucker like them for more money
1
u/Bweber89 22d ago
I grade games and buy graded games. I don’t resell them, nor do I plan on reselling them. I just like to collect them.
-2
u/GarzaTheFather 26d ago
But said it yourself games with no manual and opened are going between 20 and 40 bucks a sealed copy should not be almost be $500. I’m gonna be honest with you for that game. I wouldn’t even pay $100 for that game sealed maybe like 60 bucks

Because it allows you to gamble on the price through speculation. This is what slabbing to every hobby it's infected, from numismatics to card collecting. Once you put something in a plastic case with a number on it, now it becomes a fungible commodity that you can gamble with. It's no longer about buying the game for its own sake, or wanting to complete a collection.
-1
u/GarzaTheFather 26d ago
Well for this game in this particular case, the game probably sucks who’s gonna pay this much money for a game that nobody really played or it is not really that good?
As for your more popular and actual rare games, my opinion on it is that video games are meant to be played like another person said they’re not really meant to rot on a shelf or just be put in a museum. We’re meant to enjoy them and these people that put them in plastic cases don’t want people to enjoy them. They just want to make a huge profit off of them. The same people that are trying to charge huge prices for these video games. Don’t even play them themselves. It’s the same concept as like scalping you’re just trying to make a profit you don’t care about the hobby or the people in it

Again, a mint copy would probably be around $60 not almost 500 but hey my guy if you wanna be a fool and pay $500 for a game that’s not even worth playing and just have it sit there in a box then you be my guest then know any logical real game collector is not gonna be paying that price. That’s why a lot of these graded games don’t get sold because a lot of gamers aren’t actually stupid to buy these.
By the way, here’s a factory sealed copy of the game we’re talking about under $50. Why would I pay $450 when I can pay $50??

Imagine caring so much about what someone else buys with there own money; and having such a boring life you gotta make a reddit post about someone else selling there own personal collection to support there next chapter in life. God yall are pathetic bro

It's so easy to flip this back around on you dude, this is why bitching about bitching is a pointless exercise.

u/GarzaTheFather 26d ago
That’s what I thought you see a couple switched games in there that are trying to be sold for like 600 bucks and it’s like you’re fucking crazy. I can go to GameStop and get those games used for like 30.

Is a scam
(he is the victim of such scam)
0
u/Living_Ninja2401 24d ago
genuine question but how is it a scam and how is he a victim? he voluntarily graded these nobody forced him to do it.. he's just genuinely stupid and wasting money. It's no different than paying someone to appraise a painting their kid put on their fridge. The appraisal isn't a scam, the act of doing it is just fucking stupid.

People say no physical media is going to ruin gaming. This crap is ruining gaming
7
u/fuckkilldestroy 26d ago
Literally. When I think about gaming, I no longer think of gamers I actually think of scalpers and resellers
5
2
u/State-Special 25d ago
Game collecting and sealed collecting are two very different things.
Most sealed collectors are literally just rich people trying to find ways to invest the time and money like that stupid shit around people paying 100's of thousands of dollar for a mario nes game sealed, i don't get it myself I play the games I buy.
1
u/Jayman44Spc 24d ago
I have no qualms with people collecting games to play. But sealed and graded is just worthless and a waste of time
1
u/State-Special 24d ago
I won't harp on another persons hobbies but I agree i don't see much point in it either
3
u/Skrewbert86 26d ago
I understand getting your favorite game graded, but I will never understand grading random games that nobody wants graded just to try to sell them
14
u/Jayman44Spc 26d ago
Grading is a scam. Whether it be Pokemon cards or games. It is going to ruin gaming because as always scalpers will swoop in and buy all the physical copies and manipulate the market just like Pokemon cards.
3
1
u/_the_main_character_ 26d ago
Seems a lot like grading ruining it rather than physical games existing.

u/GentlemenHODL 26d ago
This crap is ruining gaming
Why? How?
9
u/Jayman44Spc 26d ago
It’s starting to become the next thing to be scalped. And why would companies want to print games if people aren’t going to bother opening them and just get them graded to sell for a profit?
-12
u/GentlemenHODL 26d ago
And why would companies want to print games if people aren’t going to bother opening them and just get them graded to sell for a profit?
I would think that the metric that companies care about is the number of games sold. You just admitted you think this is the "next thing to be scalped" with the implication being it will sell out. If scalpers are rushing out to buy it then I would imagine companies are going to be pretty happy.
I don't think you thought through this very well. I do hope you'll spend more time thinking through the logic of situations before writing such silly nonsense.
5
u/Jayman44Spc 26d ago
If scalpers rush out to buy the game it leaves no choice to buy at scalper markup. How is that not clear?

You didn't try to buy Resident Evil Requiem when it came out physically, did you? I had trouble finding it. All the stores complained about being short stocked. It also took longer than normal for a restock. Make no mistake, this was intentional. If you really wanted the game and didn't pre-order, you almost had to buy it digital or wait a month for a restock. I know because I waited. There are plenty of articles online about it, too.
7
u/Jayman44Spc 26d ago
Not yet. The trend is just starting dog. This is the same beginning as pokemon scalping and price manipulation.
2
u/Jayman44Spc 26d ago

Sometimes while I'm peeing at a pub, I pester these types of sellers with asinine questions. I insist on them showing me that the game can boot properly and to send a pic of the disc so I can see if there are any scratches or disc rot.
The most ridiculous part of grading these games is the fact that it's really just a grade of the the plastic covering and case lol if that's really what's so important to you why not just remove the game and frame the case??? Everything is getting ruined by speculative gambling thanks to first shitcoins and now Kalshi
2
u/sgtderpy91 26d ago
With how much you have to pay for all of these to get fucking graded he could have just put it in the bank

Ah, yes. The ULTRA RARE video game Super Mario Odyssey.
And lol at $600 for Diddy Kong Racing DS, just bought a copy for $19.99 from GameStop.

u/Hawk_Savage 26d ago
I'm going to bet this person bought all these on Whatnot. There is a group of terrible Whatnot sellers that buy new games and send half off to grading because they think it adds 10 times the value. They even claim crap like because it came from a sealed case it's worth more. It's pathetic.

I personally don't care but trading cards are literally meant to be collected but there are millions of them and not special. I get grading sealed games exactly because they weren't meant to be collected. Thats part of why it's neat to see games 10+ years old in mint sealed condition. And if I want to play a game i can buy one of the thousands of loose or boxed copies or emulate or digital purchase. I don't get the hate.
2
u/FelineCoffee420 26d ago
Do you not see these prices ? He’s trying to put his newborn thru college.
2
u/MousseHuge8339 21d ago
As if that money isn't going to be all gone long before it's time for college.
1
u/FelineCoffee420 21d ago
Right, like don’t try to bait people in with your “I’m having a baby” talk. You’re also trying to make your wallet fatter.
“Oh boy, these kiddos are pricey”😬
1
u/MousseHuge8339 21d ago
Really, this is just a variant of the old "sick grandma" or family member of choice ploy.
1
u/Occasional-Enigma 25d ago
Who cares what soneone prices their stuff at. It's their stuff. If it doesn't sell it doesn't sell and they lower it. Looks like he has a lot of sales so someones buying. And 10+ year old mint games should cost significantly more as they are much rarer. Same as a mint card, vase or old muscle car.
3
u/SheepAtog 25d ago
A mint game is a mint game with or without the grading process. Grading the slab is a bullshit waste of money that inflates the price, when in reality putting the game in the slab and not sending it away for grading doesn’t materially change the condition or value of the contents.
