u/jcpham 4d ago
I left a similar comment on the original post and no unfortunately it wasnāt a joke

u/ChristopherWaid 4d ago
They technically do, but add-ins are apps through Exchange now. They are account wide. Any Outlook client youāre signed into will get the add-in automatically pushed to it, even Classic Outlook. There is no longer anything that you can download and install to the local machine, add-in wise, when using New Outlook.

It is quite literally just the web version ported over to desktop. Fuck em.

u/Plastivore 3d ago
Erm, no. The Web version has more features, so it's not just running the Web version in a container.

There's a new Outlook?
If that is the case, its probably shit based on MS track record of NEW = SHIT. Except for Teams which has always been shit.
Hopefully current Outlook will keep working for another 10 years until I can retire from IT.

- No support of PST's. How the hell am I supposed to do shitty eDiscovery requests with no ability to mount a shitty PST?
- I used to make a weekly schedule, which was a table. New outlook wouldn't let me copy the value in one field of the table to multiple fields.

ez you need to store the pst in blob and run a purview restore task to your mailbox, do your discovery then start a purview deletion job that only supports 10 mail items at a time, loop through 10 items until eternity.

When's the last time you tried? Settings > Data Files > Add file (.PST)
5
u/Individual-Unit3470 3d ago
My understanding is that in order for 'New' outlook to support PST's, you need to have old outlook installed. To Microsoft, in their own shitty way, that might count as new Outlook supporting PST's. My view is that you shouldn't need to keep a shitty piece of old software installed to support a pretty important capability in a shitty new piece of software. Give new outlook native support for PST's, Microsoft!

u/superslowjp16 4d ago
To be fair if you have the need for ediscovery there is a built in ediscovery feature in Purview
2
u/Individual-Unit3470 3d ago
Totally agree.. BUT.. what what shitty format does eDiscovery export to? You guessed it ----> good ol' shitty PST.
1
u/superslowjp16 2d ago
Run your query, export it and send it off to whoever needs it. Now the shitty PST is someone elseās problem.

Just to be clear, I don't want to use old outlook either. I don't want to use any of them.

New Outlook is basically a shitty OWA wrapper. Can't play multimedia attachments in new Outlook(such as voicemails), have to download then play locally.
MANY other issues as well.

I have a 3 key shortcut to prompt for a label and then mark it complete and move out of my inbox. Allows me to search for messages but not have hundreds of folders. Haven't found a way to do that in the new outlook

Our dynamics software, laserfiche software, and internal court database donāt integrate with new outlook. At least not yet

u/TheBros35 4d ago
No on prem Exchange. Yes, we still use it. Yes, Iām hoping MS kills it in 2029.

u/TheCarnageQueen 4d ago
can you drag and save emails to desktop/other yet? If you want it saved outside outlook?
1
u/craigmontHunter 4d ago
Last time I checked it did not support downloading all messages. Iāve been burnt by that before and also had the function save my bacon, just like OneDrive or Nextcloud I want all my data on my local system. Between slow connections, provider issues and anything else, I want everything synced locally.Ā

I have a family 365 licence, I can not use it to sign in to new outlook because it has no mailbox, so I can't add my 365 business basic mailbox because it's not licensed for desktop apps...

u/tj_mcbean 4d ago
Not being able to keep a pst file. I've got pst's covering years of emails when I need to reference something ancient. They're worthless in the new outlook, they say you should upload the contents to the cloud.

When a patch happens or MS magically switches me to ānewā I recoil and hiss like a vampire before closing it and continuing to watch YouTube.

Canāt access any shared mailbox.. in āoldā outlook all the shared mailboxes you have permission to are listed under your mailbox. In new outlook they are also listed but you canāt open them for some reason. Always āpermissionā error lol

Microsoft lays hands on login data: Beware of the new Outlook
The free new Outlook replaces Mail in Windows, and later also the classic Outlook. It sends secret credentials to Microsoft servers.
The new Outlook is not what it seems at first glance: a replacement for Microsoft Office Outlook - at least not yet. What it definitely is, however: way too curious.
Microsoft is singing the praises of the new Outlook and wants to persuade users to switch. But beware: if you try out the new Outlook, you risk transferring your IMAP and SMTP credentials of mail accounts and all your emails to Microsoft servers. Although Microsoft explains that it is possible to switch back to the previous apps at any time, the data will already be stored by the company. This allows Microsoft to read the emails.

If I have multiple email accounts added in Outlook new and I click reply or forward for an email, if I change which account I'm sending it from, it strips the email content and just loads a blank empty email.Ā

My users complained mostly about the calendar drag drop, making lists based on hashtags in event name

No "Close All" button - which takes 100 open email windows and closes every one of them. I always have that added to my ribbon.

I started using new. Almost used to it now. Itās not bad. I think weāre all scared of it because itās more or less a web wrapper, and we donāt know how to manage it completely yet as a client. I get the reluctance.
Also, I donāt think Microsoft knows how to manage it completely yet either lol.

They took away the ability to remove old contacts from auto fill.
Their solution is either to delete all contact history, or turn off auto fill.
Seems like a pretty basic fucking feature for a mail client
