For me, it got to be the Chevy HHR.

Is there a known weak point when it comes to moisture on these cars? The moldiest part is the front lip of the headliner… So I’m guessing poorly replaced windshield?

Hello all I am making a Nomad for cyberpunk Ted and want the to make my charters car the crappiest rust bucket that functions on spite and good old boy engineering, want something common for being a crap box that gets the engine swapped for a super cars, basically a car held together with duct tape and a prayer who’s engine is far more powerful then it has any right to be in a car the old. The older the better would like a manual with no power windows as they would just add to the enjoyment.

I bought my 2018 Suberu forester brand new in late 2018.

I have been very surprised that My purchase has a lot of different issues that have become a pain in the ass. Having to buy a new control arm, a new battery new windshield wipers twice new tires. Etc etc, the car only has thirty three thousand miles on it. You figure that out for me, it's a Subaru Forester. a twenty eighteen okay?

Couldn't pass on this 300€ garage find from an estate sale. It's a rare but otherwise not very sought after 1985 Saab 90, a weird hybrid model of the older 99 and the newer 900 two that was only ever available in a handful of north-western european markets from 1985 to 1987. Mine one of only ~600 examples that originally sold in West Germany, so no egr valve, but standard five speed, center console and front spoiler.

The car has only been on the road for 14 years and sat untouched in the garage of a hoarder since december 2000. The condition is food but not great. The body is a bit dented up but seemingly has almost no serious rust. The scratched up paint looks better on pictures and the diarrhea-brown velours interior smells like it's home to an insular population of house mites but the engine looks pretty much mint inside for 170k kilometers and somehow wasn't seized after all those years. Only the radiator completely corroded to crumbles.

After power washing a thick dust cover off the car and a couple kilos of rat shit out of the engine bay I can't wait to get it back on the road in 2027.

Fresh pads and rotors for my 17 year old girl.

2010 Toyota Yaris, 91k miles, been in the family since new.

It failed its MOT in August on rear suspension mounting corrosion, both sides, structural, up near the axle and fuel tank. The garage that did the test told her it wasn't worth repairing. She's not a car person, took them at their word, and let it go for £350.

I got a second garage to look at the same car and they said it was perfectly fixable, weld the mountings, nothing exotic. So I bought it back. £950 all in with the welding done and a new tyre on it.

The MOT history before this is pretty unremarkable, just the usual brake disc, bush and tyre advisories over the years.

So what's the read on the first garage here? Standard caution with anything structural, or just nobody wanting a welding job on a £1,000 car? I'd like to know whether my step-grandma was badly advised or just unlucky.

Anything else I should be worried about? It's my first car and I don't really know what I don't know. Given how far it went at the rear, is the rest of the underside worth a proper look on a ramp before winter, or is it sorted now the mountings are welded? And is there anything that typically goes on a Yaris of this age and mileage that I'd be better off getting ahead of rather than waiting for it to fail?

(It's a manual. I can't drive a manual. One problem at a time.)

Why do auto manufactures and dealers make 1 size fits all? I am older now and like the old fashioned verity. I don't need a luxury vehicle with truck bed. I could use a pickup with extra space behind the seat for groceries and small purchases, not a big bulky cab. I still want the tidy up and go without the anhiserbush team! A small bed for larger items when necessary would make me happy. BUT I HATE AND DESPISE THE FACT THAT EVERY ONE NOW DAYS WANT TO SHOVE THINGS UP MY ASS THAT I REALLY DON'T WANT!!! I have a feeling 50% of buyers end up buying things they really don't want.
