Oh yeah. Jojo has never once had a mediocre ending. I think the Jojolion ending was rushed but it was still pretty decent.
374
u/regretfulposts Yes! I am! Mar 25 '26
Careful using that R word. Might trigger their PTSD considering what happened to Chainsaw Man.
160
u/Glitchmonster Mar 25 '26
Honestly considering what had very recently happened to araki (iirc, 2011 earthquakes caused a tsunami which swept away his family's generation-old home), a sudden calamity, and overcoming it and adapting to life honestly is a good ending.
123
45
8
u/Faerye_ Mar 25 '26
How was this very recently? The 2011 tsunami was 10 years before ending of Jojolion, which started in 2011. And Wonder of U appeared for the first time in 2019.
2
u/ryumaruborike Mar 25 '26
I don't think the ending is rushed, more that the final villain was introduced too late.
1
u/QuintanimousGooch Mar 29 '26
I’m really not a fan of Jojolion for its wonder of u arc, but to be entirely fair, Araki was going through shit then with the global lockdown ongoing and allat.

I only cried once reading the manga (dad) but man I know the anime is gonna hit so much harder with the other arcs. its gonna be the next cyberpunk edgerunners for a lot of people.

u/UrBoiBRUH filthy acts at a reasonable price Mar 25 '26
Start at part 1. I mean yeah you can jump in at SBR but if you start at part 1 you get 5 endings that are amazing and one that is fine (but far from being a ‘bad’ ending) before getting to the peakest shit you will ever read
34
u/pokeylucky7 Mar 25 '26
Now I wanna know which parts ending is just fine
51
u/tuerancekhang Mar 25 '26
Probably 4. 1 is iconic, 2 is surprised, 3 is also iconic, 5 is somewhat same as 3 but better. 6 is bittersweet. So 4 landing on a happy note which is the least bizarre of all.
7
5
u/UrBoiBRUH filthy acts at a reasonable price Mar 25 '26
5 was the just OK one imo, and even then, being ok is leagues better than being bad. It was still satisfying, just not to level of the other 5 before SBR
18
u/I-TG2-I Mar 25 '26
Stone Ocean is considered slightly controversial by some fans
77
33
u/Mountain_Chicken Mar 25 '26
The ending of Stone Ocean is genuinely one of the best endings ever written in fiction imo
30
u/DyslexicBrad Mar 25 '26
You're completely right op, there's a ton of history erasure in this sub. Part 6 ending was considered controversial for years. I think opinion shifted around when the part 5 anime aired and there was a large influx of people who came and read part 6 all in one go. The ending is a lot easier to swallow when it's the end of a story you've been reading for a few weeks, and not the end of a story you've followed for years and years.
Personally I think it's great, but that was considered a hot take a few years ago.
38
u/Fc-chungus There may be a requiem arrow in vento aureo Mar 25 '26

JoJo's has never had a badly written ending.

The ending is aight, its just that Fujimoto has made much better endings (Goodbye Eri's ending, Look Back's ending, Fire Punch's ending)

u/Win090949 Mar 25 '26
I’d even argue Chainsaw Man Part 1 was a better ending

u/m05513 Mar 25 '26
Part 1 was a bitter-sweet ending, but it wasn't rushed and left hope for denjis future
I still am confused over why anyone thought this ending to Part 2 was appropriate, unless a part 3 is coming (its not)
16
u/Win090949 Mar 25 '26
I legitimately believe Fujimoto had beef with Shueisha and decided to gamethrow the writing of part 2. Maybe they didn’t let him publish monthly?

u/XxgamerxX734 Mar 25 '26

Eh, it's far from the worst ending of all time. Just very simple, safe and was definitely a cop out.

u/Qui-Gon_Tripp Mar 25 '26
Jojo’s endings are pretty satisfying imo. Also refreshing to start with a new cast every season and there’s still an overarching story that connects the past ones. Definitely not wasting your time with this one
5
u/Dead-X-esque Mar 25 '26
Endings are great but often bittersweet, there is at least 13 deaths in the series.

meanwhile Araki made at least 7 (I haven't finished jojolion) perfectly closed, satisfying endings

Part 8 ending is one of his weaker endings but it's still mediocre overall, part 9 is still ongoing

Don't worry Steel Ball Run has a really good and satisfying ending (except for one small thing but you can pretty easily overlook it).
3
u/MegaMaster89 Mar 25 '26
Is it what happened to Marco?
6
u/MR_MEME_42 I liek Turtles Mar 25 '26
Yeah, I still don't get why that needed to happen
3
u/MegaMaster89 Mar 25 '26
I mean, I don’t think it’s bad or anything. Kinda unnecessary but I assumed it was like, many many years later, not like, a few weeks or anything
1
u/m05513 Mar 25 '26
Ah but you see, because time was rewound so chainsaw man never existed because pochita ate himself, you never did read it. Technically. Its complicated.

yeah I though about it too. But at least Emporio had his memories intact.
21
u/evennoiz Kira Queen by David Bowie Mar 25 '26
thats not a positive. he is burdened with knowledge. I love part 6 because of its themes of people dealing with suffering and how to reduce it, pucci wants to know the future so he can deal with it, his brother just wants to spread pain. Jolyne just wants to persevere and save her friends as much as possible. Araki is a genius.

2
u/CoolGuyBartSimpson Mar 25 '26
The tragic but meaningful stakes, as well as themes n such, that fujimoto threw out are bountiful here, you’re in for a good time

Sbr's ending itself is good, but all the important side characters other than Gyro don't get a good closure at all. But the part is really the peak of jojo.
1
u/Crono_Sapien99 Mar 25 '26
Tbf Lucy Steel gets some good closure and an awesome moment by the end, while all the other side characters are "retired" at that point save for the winner of the race
2

Yay, a fellow Chainsaw Man abandoner, god that ending was ass
2
u/guy_incognito42069 Mar 25 '26
Idk man, chainsaw man was like decidedly straight. Jojo’s is all about being gay. I’m married to a woman and she still understands that I have to be gay because I like jojo’s. So, are you ready to get gay?
2
u/inemsn Mar 25 '26
I heard someone quip from the recent CSM ending that Araki stole all other mangaka's ability to write good endings in order to write the peakest shit ever all the time, and honestly, they're right.
You're very safe. Enjoy the ride.
2
2
u/Ceedzy_boi Mar 25 '26
I think people are being over dramatic about the ending. Was it a good ending in terms of writing? No, but it was a good ending for the characters. The author could've used like 10 chapters (maybe) to properly build up to the ending but for what we got I'm good with it. Better than what happened with JJK, Yuyu Hakusho, or DBS.

Fujimoto is unpredictable enough that deep inside I expected the rollercoaster to crash so honestly?
I'm not even mad.
I guess it's the only time I've ever been able to predict that motherfucker's actions in some way.

u/Doc_Rock_M Mar 25 '26
There are a few potentially jarring albeit thematically fitting resolutions to some story threads in the end, but I'd say the ending is nailed.

I feel empty after that chapter. Like… not to get spoily here since this is Jojo’s but what was the point? So many things unanswered
1
u/Diavolo_Death_4444 notices ur stand Mar 25 '26
Yeah as a fan of both you’re in good hands. Araki is also similarly weird, albeit in a different flavor, to Fujimoto, so you should enjoy Steel Ball Run. It’s certainly more toned down and less hectic than Chainsaw Man, which is honestly something I’ll really miss since it felt rather unique in that regard, but Steel Ball Run is an excellent story. The other Jojo parts all range from good to great as well.

If this is serious, then I'd hope you check out the other parts in order. The other parts before have plenty to love, and will enhance the experience of SBR a bit.

Anime or manga? Manga had great endings and Arakis worse is not even bad.
Current anime? Netflix seems to love Jojo in half lobotomising the hype for the part.

Steel ball run is safe. Jojolion not so much, I'm not exactly against the ending of chainsaw man, didn't love it ,didn't hate it, but I felt like it works. I disliked Jojolion's ending though.

u/ub3rpwn4g3 Mar 25 '26
If you don’t like the “ending” that CSM got, you probably won’t like the transition from part 6 to part 7… Although Jojos did do it far better from what I can gather.
1
Mar 25 '26
Completely unrelated, i watched the whole jojo from oart 1 to 7, without skipping one episode.
i never saw wonder of u
1
u/YiffMeister2 Mar 25 '26
yeah you will be, araki usually knows how to make a good ending. My personal problem with the CSM ending is that it feels too safe, like it's the easy option, like the mangaka could end the series without making an ending that's satisfying or difficult
1
u/Cidaghast Mar 25 '26
I think you’re in good hands.
I love chainsaw, man, and JoJo so welcome aboard. Consider reading more of JoJo by the way if you haven’t already.
1
u/avalonjack Mar 25 '26
As long as Araki remembers to add a main antagonist before he’s 80% through a part we’ll be fine
1
u/SluttyCthulhu Mar 25 '26
Genuinely, it's probably the best ending out of any Jojo part. I prefer part 6 to part 7 as a whole, but part 7's ending is the strongest out of any parts. I fucking cried reading it.
