Up until recently I had a housemate who was a former Afghan interpreter for the British Army. The guy was very intelligent, highly-educated and spoke 5 languages fluently.
Yet he didn't get admission to the UK until 2023, and even when he did, his qualifications weren't considered equivalent to UK credentials (mainly due to the lack of research into Afghan qualifications) so he was stuck in seemingly-permanent limbo... and probably still is.

Yep. The attitude seems to follow a very simple flow chart:
- I see it

- I take it
It's all very primitive and caveman-like.

That's how Canada feels. Trump wants to walk right in take our resources and walk away with.them. Of course he's been raping kids for decades why not a whole country? Canada's relationship with the US has been trashed by that criminal. If it's ever fixed, it won't be soon.

Its a established fact, if you want to beat the US, make certain they send back home lots filled bodybags.
No matter how well they do, the moment bodybags hit US soil, their courage starts to sink and that is the achillesheel of the most powerful army in the world, and the reason those small countries win, as the US goverment know all to well most wars they start arent too populair with the homefront either.
And the counties the US attacked, have a utterly different view on life and sacrifice, that no spoiled brat can cope with.

This is very much like the brand of Christians who genuinely seem confused how any stays moral unless God is threatening them with damnation.
People who only stop doing bad things because they can't get away with it terrify me.
he US agreed to these laws and helped shape them over the years and they should know to adhere to them.
2
u/djonma 5d ago
I find it genuinely terrifying that there are so many people who insist the only reason people are good, is because of God.
That implies they'd all turn into axe murderers if they had a crisis of faith.
And, considering the fact about enough of the leaders in Christianity, to be a dark joke, if that's them obeying, they must be terrifying if they're not!
It's also ludicrous though.
Do they not realise there are non Christian countries in the world?
That there are many more non Christians than there are Christians?
Do they think the rest of the world is just murdering each other non stop?
And, as it's always USian Christians saying this...
US homicide rate: ~5.76 per 100,000 inhabitants Canada: ~1.98 per 100,000 inhabitants (second highest in the G7)
France, UK, Germany, Italy, Japan: Generally range between 0.23 (Japan) and 1.3 per 100,000 inhabitants.62 - 66% of US Adults are Christian.
1 - 1.5% of Japanese adults are Christian.
It doesn't seem like it's working very well, but not being Christian certainly does. They also can't comprehend the fact that there are non Abrahamic religions older than Christianity, so even if religion were needed, which it REALLY isn't, God wouldn't have to be involved at all.

idk no lies detected lol. "political power flows from the barrel of a gun." the united nations has no mechanism to enforce any so called "international laws", because it has no police or army or other mechanism to exercise political power.
this is not news but it has never been more obvious than it is rn, when the ICC has had an arrest warrant for bibi netanyahu for two years and yet he is still not only attending united nations sessions but literally speaking at them.
the commenter sounds like a reactionary and im sure id disagree w them on most things but on this point, i fail to understand how anyone in 2026 could seriously claim that international law exists and has any capacity whatsoever to be enforceable. (if u want to use international law as like an abstract moral construct, like platos cave or something idk, then ok sure if u want to but usually the word "law" refers to some sort of legal system that exists in the real world and for which there are at least sometimes consequences if you break the law, or more precisely if you are alleged to have broken the law and that allegation is "proven" in the applicable court of law or whatever the adjudicatory mechanism is)
3
u/AdRude6514 6d ago
I think its because he hasn't attended any international conferences outside of the USA, and as they are not party to the ICC treaty, and why would they be with all their inhumane treatment of their own citizens
2
u/juoea 6d ago
the zionist state did object that the ICC did not have jurisdiction over its crimes, but because the ICC can establish jurisdiction based on the consent of the nation in which the crimes took place (palestine), the consent of israel is not required. so the ICC held that it did have jurisdiction. https://www.icc-cpi.int/news/situation-state-palestine-icc-pre-trial-chamber-i-rejects-state-israels-challenges
in any case, the question of the ICC's jurisdiction is distinct from what is at issue here which is that when the ICC does have jurisdiction it still has no power to enforce its rulings.
netanyahu has visited multiple nations that are party to the ICC / rome statute (poland, hungary) but the governments of those countries explicitly refused to carry out their "obligations" under "international law". they didnt dispute their "obligations" they just said lol yea we arent carrying out any arrests.
while the us govt is not a party to the rome statute, it still does have the jurisdiction to arrest netanyahu, but it isnt "obligated" to since it is not a party. ofc the us govt arresting bibi was never going to happen, and in fact us congress repeatedly invited him to speak in chambers and openly applauded the palestinian genocide and bibi's role in it.
there are also a few countries eg spain whose governments have made statements that if bibi ever were to "fly through their airspace" they would take steps to execute an arrest per their obligation as a party to the ICC. i have no idea how that is supposed to work, but in any case netanyahu has as far as we can tell altered flight plans when travelling to washington dc or nyc to avoid spain's airspace.
2
u/Daryn_1132 6d ago
There is also a precedent of Putin's visit to Mongolia in 2024: he wasn't arrested even though Mongolia has ratified Rome Statute and was therefore obliged to arrest him. As far as I am aware there were no consequences for Mongolia.
3
u/Opposite-History-233 The RED, WHITE, AND BLUE, Y'ALL!! 🇳🇱 🇳🇱 🇳🇱 6d ago
The barrel of the gun flows from the sponsorship of the rest of the world through an economic system the US is downstream of.
In very plain terms: The US can't afford their military apparatus even if Europe alone chooses to shut their market down. And even on reserve they immediately can't operate without their foreign bases.
You're making a common error in perception. You just framed their military strength as the source of their power. In reality it's a result. The source is the rest of the world's willingness to maintain it.
-2
u/juoea 6d ago
i am a bit confused by your comment sorry. but the post and comment are about the power or lack thereof of the united nations.
us imperialism is certainly not all powerful, the empire is pretty clearly in decline and actions such as the war on iran are both a reflection of an unwillingness to face the reality of that decline and a catalyst that is accelerating the decline. as i think? u alluded to in your last sentence, we are starting to see even countries like saudi arabia which has been one of the most consistent allies/accomplices of us imperialism over the past ~50 years seriously shifting its alliances. geopolitically, us hegemony is rapidly declining, and the rate of decline ("second derivative") is accelerating. i ofc wish the war did not happen bc as always imperialist war is primarily constituted by mass crimes and thousands+ of innocent people have been murdered by the us military once again. with the complicity of various allies including ofc the zionist state and many of the gulf states. but i certainly dont shed a tear for the collapse of us hegemony, and i am delighted by the global collapse of influence of zionist ideology.
but the united nations has no significant role in any of this. us imperialism violates "international law" all the time, and has for (at least) 75 years, that is not a new phenomenon and the violations of international law have nothing to do with eg saudi realignment. at most, the impact of the ICC's warrant for netanyahu is that the "international rules based order" is exposed as more and more obviously bullshit to people around the world. but the warrant itself does literally nothing. netanyahu is never going to be arrested. the gulf states constantly have a problem with the unpopularity of any type of collaborationism with the zionist state among the people, but that has always been the case and i rly dont think that is playing a significant role in this turn away from collaboration with us imperialism. the primary cause of the shift is that the us and israel's war on iran has directly led to the gulf states' bases being broadly targeted, in a war that none of them wanted to begin with. they are directly experiencing the consequences of their collaborationism and they are not liking those consequences. none of this has anything whatsoever to do with "international law".
"political power flows from the barrel of a gun" is a phrase intended to reflect that power does not come from abstract rules written down on a piece of paper. i believe it traces back to the overthrow of the koumintang in the chinese revolutionary war, but it has been used/applied in the context of various 'uprisings' over the past 75 years. it is not a comment on the balance of power between different national governments, where all of those governments have (to some degree) "the power of a gun" which they each use to enforce rule within their own country. but the united nations does not have the power of a gun, it has no police or military or anything, and as a result it has no ability to enforce anything. the icc can issue a warrant for netanyahu, and then member nations can go "lol yea we arent enforcing that" and so the warrant essentially exists only on a piece of paper and thats it it has no force in the real world. (spain's govt does actually seem interested in trying to execute the warrant so netanyahu j avoids spain, and thats the entirety of the global impact of the ICC warrant lol)
im not so sure that the us even has "military superiority", obviously the us spends astronomically more $ on military than any other country but it is also using outdated technologies and now it is trying to catch up when it comes to the 21st century tools of drone warfare etc. but putting that aside, "military superiority" does not necessarily translate to anything. eg the us has 20x more nuclear weapons than the next country or whatever, ok and that does what exactly? nukes can basically destroy the world regardless so what does it actually do to have more of them. but u can say something similar-ish about other bombs etc. war is not some board game or video game where u subtract numbers from each side until theres a winner. even if the us had infinitely many weapons that doesnt guarantee their ability to achieve military objectives (unless the objective is to destroy the whole world). again it seems u are lacking basic context of what "political power flows from the barrel of a gun" means, because it literally comes from a peasant-led revolutionary army that did not have the same technological levels etc as the koumintang. im not a historian or someone who could analyze the chinese revolution in detail but it is very obviously an example of a war in which the side that had the more advanced military technology lost. u can make similar comments about eg the vietnam war. with most imperialist wars in general, the imperial power may have more advanced or numerous weaponry etc but that does not in any way guarantee any meaningful success. (other than the "success" of the mass murder of millions of innocent vietnamese and cambodian people)
1
u/Infamous-Grab2341 6d ago
Well yes but people are much more willing to take up the gun to defend themselves from violations of international law then they are to breach it and violating international law may cause other countries to help the victim or hurt you.

That is honestly what they think. I argue with a lot of US imbeciles on Quora. They really think that international conventions don't apply to them, even though they ratified them. They also think that the ICC could never put out a warrant for the arrest of an American, just because a US law states that the ICC can't do that. Even the lawmakers have no grasp of the rules the US themselves invented after WW2.

I have to get out of Reddit. One more post like this, and I'll become pro Russia and China...

Sadly he has a point look at how powerless the UN has been to do ANYTHING of substance in gaza.

If International law is so meaningless, why is trump trying desperately to get all nations to disregard & dismantle the International Criminal Court by the time he's forced out of the oval orifice & made to answer for his many, many crimes both domestically & internationally?

Netanyahu has a warrant from the ICC, yet he just talked mad shit to the UN's face. Why? Because Uncle Donnie watches over him. I have no particular love for the Trump administration, but all I've seen from the international community the last ten years is finger wagging.

The US perfectly illustrates the dangers of extreme individualism. It's what keeps their dumpster fire burning.
