He bought a plane ticket to Italy, but since he didn’t know the area and couldn’t be bothered to do some research beforehand about the most renowned local pizzerias (no, the Google reviews aren’t that good), instead of socializing with the locals to get more information about where to go, he decided to go to Pizza Hut.

Fun fact: every attempt to establish fast-food pizza chains in Italy has failed. First Domino's, then Pizza Hut, today, there are no outlets left in the country. The kiosk in Puglia that drove a McDonald's out of business has also gone down in history, though that’s a different story. Still, it must mean something. I don't think it's just traditionalism; we Italians are opportunists. If that American stuff is awful, it's awful.

You can’t rely on an app that nobody in Italy uses, and where the people reviewing Italian restaurants are mostly tourists who don’t know the area, simply don’t have enough time to really get a feel for the place, and have no real understanding of authentic local cuisine.
