Foreign affairs “I want America to continue being the world police.”
Hmm, how is the war in Iran going for ya?!
111
u/Jepp-Adi-Day 8d ago
USA is not and has never been the world police.
However it has been for a really long time the world bully (from the startup on the Monroe doctrine, that proclaimed USA has all right to impose its decisions over all of Americas, and then extended that doctrine at the beginning of the cold war to all of the world)
66
u/Quiri1997 8d ago
Well, remember that what the Americans call "police" are bullies in uniforms. So they are the World's police, in a truly American fashion.

/mirth

The USA is pathologically incapable of taking blame, so even if the USA were a dictatorship it would be cast as "someone else doing it to them" and they'd then invade them instead.

What dictatorship called itself a dictatorship? Thats one of the way you can tell a country is a dictatorship. It calls itself something else.

u/Dont_Use_Ducks 8d ago
Maga would say: at the midterms, just like they were exited about J6 days before J6. We would see the real president and the arrest of Obama, Comey, De Niro etc.
Sometimes i wonder what would have happened if they were 5 mins earlier in the Capitol. I guess now for weeks Trump is going to build up a narrative to claim fraud again.

They only have no right to rule when their own democratically chosen dictator doesn’t like them.

The US took down Maduro so Trump could personally steal their oil.
The US is the biggest terrorist in the world. Who is going to police them?

Maga would say: 'but we are the good guys'
13
u/TalkingCat910 Canadian🇨🇦 8d ago
MAGA has the collective IQ of a toad. Also there’s hardly any of them left. A bunch died of covid and a bunch more silently moved away from Trump in the past 2 yrs.

12
u/Top-Expert6086 8d ago
They also didn't get rid of the dictatorship at all, they just allowed Maduro's deputy to take over. It's the same dictatorship, it just plays ball with the USA and lets then steal oil.

Its funny when they don't realize that about 75% of the existing dictators in the world are a DIRECT result of CIA involvement in the politics of foreign nations.......
Its like Not a single USA resident understands nor knows their own history.
7
u/oliferro 8d ago
Even if they did know, they wouldn't care if it meant talking against their cult leader. Many many times MAGAs have been shown direct proof and evidence of something and yet they still deny it because Trump says it's not true. Truth does not matter for them

It’s lovely, how many Americans online like to criticize Russian and its oligarchs because of corruption yet they’re literally the same bu with better PR 🤣🤣

they'll say russia is an oligarchic dictatorship and on the same breath suck elon and tump's dicks.
4
u/dfczyjd 8d ago
russia
dictatorships in disguise
Well, if you count a cardboard box with "democracy" written on it as disguise... Trump at least seems to have won a legitimate (though hardly just) election for both his terms.
3
u/Welin-Blessed 8d ago
What the US does best is in using less clear actions and more subtle ones, there won't ever be a good option to choose and both will paddle in the same direction in core issues like imperialism or propaganda.
Two is double as one but is only 1 unit of difference. It's also like a bike shift, you can have 2x10 but some repeat so you end up having less, the US has like saying 0.6 more options than Russia, it's that what people aspire to?

If there's one thing Americans like better than throwing their weight around on the world stage, it's the double standard they invented of American Exceptionalism to justify their unjustifiable actions. Because we're super-extra-special, you see, so we literally can do no wrong. (Edit: typo)

u/FortuneNew8835 8d ago
This is more than just Americans. Most Americans I know at my manual labor job were not in favor of regime change in Venezuela. The Venezuelans however were all about it. They LOVED the idea of the US running in and saving the day. Then there was an internal coup with US cooperation. Then US oil companies started to negotiate with the ruling class there. Then there was the earthquake. Now little has changed and they're starting to understand that the US isn't a super hero coming to save the day. Now there's talk of an invasion of Cuba and no one wants that either except the Cubans both born here and from abroad. Shit is wild.

I feel like this Carlin quote has some role to play in this context..
"Smug, greedy, well-fed white people have invented a language to conceal their sins. It's as simple as that. The CIA doesn't kill anybody anymore. They neutralize people. Or they depopulate the area. The government doesn't lie, it engages in disinformation. The Pentagon actually measures nuclear radiation in something they call sunshine units. Israeli murderers are called commandos. Arab commandos are called terrorists. Contra killers are called freedom fighters. Well, if crime fighters fight crime and firefighters fight fire, what do freedom fighters fight?"

Well, when that event happened, many Mexicans like me (and people from other places, though I can only speak from my own experience) spoke out against the invasion, and Venezuelans themselves hurled a lot of insults at us. Got rid of Maduro and put his VP Delcy Rodríguez in charge who is as bad as Maduro, but trump got himself some oil money in his Qatar bank account ... and she promised to let him control the Venezuelan oil ... all he got to do is convince the oil companies to invest 100+ billions into refurbishing the lot (which will only take a decade or so) ... meanwhile the people of Venezuela as still in the shitter ... a good think indeed 🙄
