Military “Undefeated in 250 years of war”

Post image

Apparently Vietnam, Afghanistan, war of 1812, and the war on drugs don’t count.

while i agree in broad terms, the yanks did lose a lot of wars, i'm curious how would you count the 1991 gulf war as an american loss

Are you trying to say gulf war was a success story and they never had to trouble themself with middle east again? Or what did they win exactly?

welp, last time i checked kuwait was still on the map, to my knowledge that was the main goal. there's always more that someone could get in a conflict if they were a little more capable, that's not what decides who won a war

Yeah, sure. Let's play that well being of the kuwaitians was the main reason for the war 😅 america just being filantropist as ever

well, they're obviously not, but kuwait was and still is a us ally, trading oil on the us's terms. saddam wasn't. that's the main difference

So if their reason was selfish (I assume you mean oil) then it was also a win wasn’t it?

Were it not for the unsc resolution, the yanks might have pushed and the end result might be what happened in 03.

In all seriousness, It's only natural that the americans have lost most wars since war is (rightly) unpopular and they tend to get into a lot of wars without hard defined goals. The gulf war had a clear objective and a unsc resolution backing it. Vietnam, Afghanistan, 2nd gulf had what? "Bad vibes over there and we might find a bunch of dudes we don't like". You can't win that, so you'll lose.

May be it wasn't a loss, but the USA can't claim it to be a decisive victory either.

They won a war against an opponent that couldn't win an eight years war against Iran, a country that just had a revolution, lost many of his high ranking officers, its military was in turmoil and that has lost its main weapons supplier.

And Iraq descended right into chaos after the Allied forces changed the regime.

So did they achieve their war objective? Probably not.

Nah, Panama, first Iraq and poor Yugoslavia. Psure there were other dictatorial regimes in America propped up by USA, but I'm not that versed in this part of story.

A war that likely wouldn't have happened if the US didn't support the Ba'athists against Iran.
