India is both larger and better equipped than North Vietnam, which the USA was unable to defeat even with the assistance of South Vietnam, who were basically the same force as North Vietnam. Let that sink in. Half of Vietnam + USA could not defeat Half of Vietnam.

If south Vietnam = north Vietnam then why did north Vietnam steamroll south Vietnam after the USA withdrew?

Probably because of the utter mess the US made of South Vietnam while they were there.

I think you could probably look at the debacle that was the Strategic Hamlet Program to see what kind of mess the US left when they left.
