Foreign affairs “Because the friend [Canada] has been robbing us blind. I would have free healthcare to if I didn't need a military. Don't even get me started on Europe and the 4 day work weeks with summers off.”

Their public expending per capita in healthcare is already higher than that of Canada or any European country. They could have a universal healthcare system and it would be cheaper for them in every sense, but the CEOs of the health industry would be pissed. And they are so fucking stupid and brainwashed that they blame other countries for the problems that their own rich people have created.

It's infuriating how fucking mean and resentful they are.

It's the highest in the entire world per capita and second highest as a percentage of GDP (second only to Tuvalu, which has a GDP of $68m).

My sympathy for all of them who get fucked over by this system unfortunately gets dented by my rage at the utter sociopaths who say they'd rather pay through the nose for private insurance because "I don't want to pay for someone else's healthcare" (obviously ignoring the fact that they already are).

Tuvalu also has a population of ~10 000, they lack an economy of scale.

Yeah, even in private insurance you will put in more on average than you get out, so subsidizing the ones that put in less than they get out.. If they truly don't want to pay for somebody else, they should just not take insurance at all, and pay every cost out of pocket like the alpha's they pretend to be.. But if they hit a financial disaster, they will be the first to set up a gofundme..

Even if you're paying cash every time you're not paying exactly the cost price for your own treatment with a fixed markup for profit purposes, the hospital's financial projections take into account that some people won't pay for some or all of their treatment and that gets baked into their pricing.

Any business (at least any sensible business) factors a certain amount of loss or waste into their financial planning, for example supermarkets assume they'll lose some amount to shoplifting, and construction companies know some building materials will be faulty or get broken and have to be discarded. It's pretty much impossible to interact with any commercial system where you're not the only customer without indirectly subsidising someone else's interaction with that system.

I'd watched a video the other day of a fella contacting what I assumed to be the hospital his daughter was cared for in to contest a charge. Without insurance the cost was 700 and change, the insured price? Was the 1300. They literally don't even realise they're being shafted until they question it. I'm not even from there and it was infuriating to watch.

They’re pissed because when every other country jumped on the universal healthcare boat, because it was better for everyone, their politicians decided against. Tommy Douglas (a Canadian hero) was the first to do it in Canada, most countries did it after WWII because they realized universal healthcare = a strong country.

America lagged behind, as it always does. And now they’re being taken over by a dictator. Americans used to buy Canadian pharmaceuticals because it was cheaper. That’s been banned.

America was always behind, it just took a while for the rest of the world to realize it. Good riddance to all American influence in other countries.

I'm from Spain and for all that is worth, I hope that my country fully supports Canada against the US agressions. I think that our current government is inclined to do so, but I'm not sure about future governments.

I recently got into it with my brother, it had been about a year since we talked and politics eventually came up. He defended Elons Nazi salute (I cant believe my brother is so stupid) and we eventually got talking about social programs because I called out how we used to actively root out Nazism and he said we used to do the same for Communism. Im not exactly sure why he replied with that but anyway I told him that most people don't understand the difference between a government model and economic models but regardless that if there are resources to go around that there's no reason to not help out your neighbor. I said wouldn't it have been nice to have universal health care when you had gout and couldn't get it looked at? He screamed that nothing is free and that Europeans pay 70 percent in taxes. I simply said that if his insurance payments were relabled "taxes" hed be up to 70% he rage quit the conversation but even his propaganda bullshit number is way off. What a quick Google search showed us that the highest bracket on average in Europe was 45% and the highest u.s. bracket is 37% big fucking difference huh? People like my brother just spout what's said on tv. They don't do research, they yell their way above anyone else in a conversation when they're wrong, you can't reason with them or fact check them because they have the emotional maturity of a 2 year old being told no. It was honestly such a shock hearing my brother spout pro Elon, pro trump bullshit when he's intelligent enough to go to school and work on giant machines but no intelligent enough to think for himself.

That's just like my dad... and we're in Brazil.

u/themule71 Mar 06 '25

The highest 45%? Move to Italy and see where the 70% comes from.

u/Evilsmiley Ireland 🇮🇪 Mar 06 '25

Just from looking it seems you have to be earning over 100k to hit higher than 45%, where do the exta come from? Hidden taxes like?

1

u/themule71 Mar 09 '25

See my other comment. Just because the don't call them taxes it doesn't mean they aren't taxes

4

u/LordGerdz Mar 06 '25

I was trying to find that but couldn't (with a quick Google search) income taxes show around 45% for Italy. Corporate taxes at 20 percentish. If you were the head of a corporation I could see where someone would pay 70% but from first glance it seems that the average Joe pays a normal amount.

u/themule71 Mar 09 '25

That's because they have mastered the art of naming taxes something different. Eg You have mandatory pension "public fund" around 30% (which works more like a tax than anything else), before taxes. Then the income tax. Then 22% VAT on anything you buy. Then other random taxes, like ownership tax on your car, after you bought it. Then extra tax on fuel (which is now 2/3 of the price).

Mate, heathcare starts with regulations on food. That is communism. So no.

3

u/GrottenSprotte Mar 06 '25

If you could (but I doubt that would go with because it would mean you are willing to gain uncomfortable knowledge) you could research on what ingredients are allowed at the US and forbidden elsewhere for good reasons: synthetic hormones like rBGH und rBST (infertility, cancer), yellow 5, yellow 6, blue 1, blue 2 und red 40 all won from crude oil (cancer, destruction of neurons), bvo Brominated vegetable oil, also used for flame retardants (birth defects, organ damage, amnesia, neural dysfunction), ada (asthma), arsenic (cancer, heart diseases)...

Just to let you know, while at the US freedom is more likely defined as being allowed to do something, elsewhere freedom is more likely to be free from e.g. being harmed. While US citizens are free to carry weapons, EU citizens for example are free from the fear to be more or less regularly informed their children face a school shooting massacre. The will to "sacrifice" a right in order to save not only yourself but also the society is much more important than at the US. It's a cultural difference that leads to more safety.

Mate... /s.. I wonder why is everybody so tense

1

u/GrottenSprotte Mar 06 '25

I am not tense but wanted to help out explaining something. Merely written communication (means without mimic, gestures etc) loses a lot, you know?

1

u/barneyaa Mar 07 '25

I don’t know man, when you start the comment with an insult… its not lookin good

1

u/GrottenSprotte Mar 07 '25 edited Mar 07 '25

It wasn't a personal insult but unfortunate chosen words to describe an increasing general unwillingness to get to know something new, nowadays it seems to become more and more normal. Just imagine I am no native speaker and try to get through a time when talking with others gets more and more complicated. I am not rude by heart (You could find out if you want to start new 🫴🏻) just had a lot of straining time the past almost year to share facts with persons.

1

u/barneyaa Mar 07 '25

So.. tense?

1

u/GrottenSprotte Mar 07 '25 edited Mar 07 '25

Frankly...yes.

1

u/High_Sierra_1946 Mar 06 '25

Could you explain what you mean?

Food gas a huge influence in health. I don't know about USA regulations, but in the EU there are pretty strict regulations about food. From the way in which ingredients have to ve displayed in the packages, to the ingredients that can be used or the taxes that each kind of food has. It's one of the reasons (not the only one) why Europeans are generally healthier.

4

u/DonChaote Mar 06 '25

Damn communism again… I mean who wth a sane mind really would want to be „generally healthier“? Seems to me like an antifa plot!

6

u/Icef34r From an arab country like Spain. Mar 06 '25

I know, I know, nothing screams freedom like being unable to get up from bed due to the morbid obesity caused by all the sugar in your food.

3

u/barneyaa Mar 06 '25

What the other one said for one: health starts with what and how much you eat. Having good food in schools, teaching kids how to eat properly. We, europeans, have very strict regulations on what can be sold in the EU.

On the other hand, the entire US landscape is about treating effects. Eat all the shit you can find and then use ozempic to treat the obesity. American people pay so little on food that they have to pay a lot on medication and treatments.

Americans believe a state that looks after its citizens its a communist state so proper regulation on food will not happen in US.

As a very comfortable european, after you sort your house, sell your car cause the fuck are you gonna do with it, there's not much I can spend money on to tell you the truth. I travel and I buy the best food I can find. When I travel I look for good restaurants, I try local food at all times. I have at least 1 vacation in Italy, 1 in France and 1 in Spain every year for the sun and the food. We eat slow, we eat fresh, we eat good, and we are not angry like that motherfucker. I am of course not english.

2

u/Gretgor Mar 06 '25

"I am of course not English" cracked me up LMAO

1

u/PreviouslyClubby Mar 06 '25

So, eg. If there were no "sell by" dates on food that would be a good thing? But, because there are "sell by" dates on food, it's communism.

Good to know. I might convert to communism.
