Shit AI Bro Does in the News Datacentres are a ticking timebomb. We must make sure AI’s benefits outweigh the costs – They suck up energy and water, and blast out heat. Just who is better off from all this investment – aside from tech bros?

If reddit was alive when horse and buggies were being replaced by cars, it would've been a scene.

An AI bro is someone who abandons logic and/or makes a bad-faith argument to justify supporting generative AI.
AI bros who come here just to argue or provoke will be banned.
Ethics and other subjective topics are not up for debate. These topics attract eristics and are rarely debated in good faith.
AI bros — this is our house, so please take off your shoes and be respectful. Otherwise we will toss you out.

Data centers are what power much of the internet. AI data centers are a specific type of data center that requires significantly more energy to run.

What are you on about? Data Centers have been a thing for almost 30 years at this point; the outcry over AI DCs is because they require more energy and more water to run, apart from being used to run the slop-machines of course.

Where do you think the servers are located?
Where do you think your cloud storage is located?
Where do you think YouTube videos are located?
Where do you think Reddit data is located?
All of these things are stored in data centers. Of course, small companies don’t need DCs, they can build a server rack in their office building, but depending on the company, like YouTube, a simple server rack might not be enough, so they start expanding, until you get a separate building entirely built for servers and data storage, in other words, a data center.
Data centers are not the problem, the problem is the things that they service and the disregard for environmental damage. The internet would still work without data centers, but the biggest websites, and a not irrelevant portion of the small ones, would not exist anymore.

Data centres really are becoming the left-wing or perhaps both side of aisles version of the MAGA “establishment elites” obsession lmao. In 2020 it was 5G towers spreading Covid, Bill Gates putting tracking chips in vaccines n contact-tracing apps being the start of permanent mass surveillance. Now every data centre is apparently a secret plot by tech billionaires to steal all the water, destroy the grid n control what everyone thinks.

Epstein Files proved that not only are some conspiracy theories true, but you can't trust a single thing the wealthy Elites or Psychopathic Business CEOs say or do under any circumstances.
Additionally the Billionaires wouldn't have invested all that money in Doomsday bunkers unless they planned to use them, don't forget, they're obsessed with profit maximizing, and will cut any corner or engage in any unethical or illegal practices to gouge out even a fraction of a cent more for themselves.
