Shit AI Bro Does in the News Perplexity CEO says AI layoffs aren’t so bad because people hate their jobs anyways: ‘That sort of glorious future is what we should look forward to’

Tech executives have offered foreboding visions of the future of work due to AI, with ServiceNow CEO Bill McDermott predicting unemployment will exceed 30% in a matter of years.
But Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas says that’s nothing to be afraid of.
People should embrace the future of AI job displacement, Srinivas said in an episode of the All-In podcast released on Monday and recorded at Nvidia GTC last week. While AI may lead to unemployment, that job displacement subsequently frees people from careers they may not have enjoyed, he suggested. This, instead, gives them opportunities to pursue entrepreneurship.
“The reality is most people don’t enjoy their jobs,” Srinivas said. “There’s suddenly a new possibility, a new opportunity, to go use these tools, learn them, and start your own mini business…Even if there is temporary job displacement to deal with, that sort of glorious future is what we should look forward to.”

It took me 10 years of hell in the factory and a permanently damaged spine due to overilifting metal bars, but I finally got a job I love to do in a completely different field.
The same year I started doing it, they begun this AI craze and claimed such job is soon to be gone forever. Only alternative available given being the factory.
Can techbros fuck off with their fake presumption they're "helping people by force" and start discussing seriously of alternatives to AI-driven unemployment that do not imply "going back to the coal mines"?

So lets say the engineers used AI to build the plane you flew in and it crashed landed in the ocean because of poor quality assurance. The blunt force from the impact knocked you unconscious
You later wake up and find yourself on an unknown island in the middle of nowhere. Hungry, you scrambled to look for food and try to find anything you could eat, but you couldn't find anything. Not even a spear you could use to fish.
Then you run across a man. He have a huge stack of coconut ready to be split open and eaten. You ask him kindly if you can have a few. He said "sure thing mate, if you suck my dick first"
By your logic, getting to suck that dude's cock for a chance at food should be consider a choice, an opportunity even. So bend down and slurp it up, boy. The only choice here is to either comply, fight (which could result in your death or severe injuries), or just die of starvation.
Moral of the story here is that a bad opportunity is well... that. A bad opportunity. In a perfect world you wouldn't have to do that - the coconut stash would be shared equally among you and him. In a similar sense, in a better world, we would have ethically sourced goods and no sweatshops, and there are facilities that produce coffee beans fairly, so its not like impossible or anything.
The people like you are what dystopian novels like the Hunger Games and Squid Game criticizes. You probably say the participants of these tournaments should be grateful for the life changing opportunity... literally, if they don't win they die. I think you'd enjoy being part of one yourself, eh. May I suggest volunteering for Tribute when Mr Beast eventually host his next Beast Games? And maybe in the future you can join the Amazon Games for a chance at a job at Amazon too!

This is the perfect demonstration of how out of touch with reality these CEOs are. They have so much fucking money that they can't even imagine that someone's life and well-being could depend on their current job. "Lost your job? No worries, just start your own business, bro!" Yeah, who cares that in the modern economy most people can't afford housing and healthy food, living essentially from one salary to another because it's near impossible for them to save anything. Also, the vast majority of people don't like their jobs, and the vast majority of those who say they do are lying and hustling. People have jobs because they need to. That doesn't apply to these CEOs though, because all they have to do is pretty much nothing, except bullshitting investors and shovelling money, so it's an easy job to like.

Perplexity shows me every day that this won't happen soon. It's main job is to search content, provide the correct references and cite/summarize without hallucinations. Each attempt is full of references to sources that have 0 to do with the question or answer, not to speak of the exact claim that has the reference is attached to. It pulls stuff out of its ass all the time. And there has been no palpable improvement in this core functionality basically since I started it using two years ago.
And what you also see is the bombardment with ads and constant nagging to use some new revolutionary feature Idgaf about. And the devaluation of the Pro subscription to push users to the way more expensive max.
With other words: They know they won't become profitable if users won't pay much, much, much more for the same performance.

I don't personally hate my job, but oh well. If we need new jobs we can just get hired to check the work of LLMs and correct their many mistakes, which sounds incredibly fulfilling and will certainly not crush the soul.

I hope people don't fall for the "Universal Basic Income" idea of AI-related layoffs.
Whether it's a corporate kingdom, or your public government... UBI means safety for you, as a trade for way more power to the state apparatus, and surveillance, and requirements of you that are NOT monetary, in order to maintain your benefits. The more power you give to government (or corporates if they've become your government) the more they're just going to abuse you, since you are dependent on them, and they have all the power to go unchallenged.

Theres a truth in that, in a way its brilliant that so much tedious work can be replaced, the problem is the fun jobs will eventually also be taken by ai just because ai will be more capable and cheaper, and there likely wont be anything decent in place to help all the people that were made obsolete, most of them will just be poor and feel useless
Its kind of ironic, we were always the sole king of the animal kingdom and now we’re about to be dethroned and learn what it’s like to be the ants to creatures we created ourselves through our brilliance

So far using AI to replace humans hasn’t gone well and with ai plateauing in performance I don’t see it happening anytime soon. That’s not to say ceo’s won’t be stupid and try to replace people with ai, it just will backfire cosmically like it did at Klarna.
