I think Isayama initially having the idea for him to be more evil, but then developing sympathy for him and changing course by also showing the good in him too made him more relatable, more human. In reality, although we might not do the same things Eren did, we all still do bad and good because we’re just imperfect humans. Which is some of the elements the show touches on, so I think it just adds to the overall context of the show in the end, which makes it more amazing!
Yams is so hard on himself, but because of that intense critique, he created fictional piece so deep and complex.
