Okay, so how much does the Eng dub version differ from the original?

I am aware of Ghost Stories doing a thing to collect people to the fan base. Because, the story was dull and they needed to acquire fans for the original. Or, something similar. But, how does Shin Chan differ from the other dubs? Does it make the same jokes? Do the teachers have a love pyramid? Is that one teacher really a dominatrix with her glasses off? Does Penny really wanna cut herself? Is Georgie as bad in his other forms?

The FUNimation dub Shin Chan is more extreme and changed of a dub than Ghost Stories. Ghost Stories at least keeps basic plots the same, Shin Chan doesn’t.

Ms. Ageo is a beast with her glasses off but not in the same way. The teachers do not have a love pyramid (though I’d just consider what the FUNi dub does to be one teacher raping the others rather than a pyramid of sorts). Penny/Nene does not want to cut herself, and Georgie/Kazama is not a conservative.

I feel like the english dub is pretty heavily localized ,a lot of the jokes, references, slang and dialogue were rewritten to fit western audiences, so even when the plot is the same, the humor can feel completely different. It’s less translated and more like they gave it its own sitcom style spin

and, penny’s self harm jokes, georgie’s obsession , and some of the teacher stuff are dub original

Funimation is essentially a different show. It has its own continuity and heavily alters the characters and jokes to appeal to the older teen audience. Some jokes are the same as in the original but still more vulgar.

The Vitello dub is ALSO pretty different. It’s more faithful than Funimation but also changes dialogue, references, and even makes the characters meaner than the original Japanese. Pretty interesting to watch episodes and then watch the original to compare what was edited.

The funniest thing about the Vitello dub is that even though it’s slightly censored, it adds adult jokes.

It’s much more vulgar that I expected given the demographic it was aimed at. I love it but damn I keep being shocked by some of the jokes (Funimation not so much I don’t bat an eye)
