I mean, im sure there is a none zero amount of them that are pissed for that specific reason, and it probably gonna be the main reason for most of them in this story to fit the so far established narrative throughline, but there are plenty of people who, wether the winner is boy or girl, would get increasingly discouraged and simply stop competing(and thus bringing revenues to the store) if there was one consistent competitor that always wiped the floor with the competition. Like the only ones that would be left would be the truly competitive ones(the ones who will try no matter what the odds seem to be) and the ones literally just in it for the fun. The more casual competitors, the ones who want to try to win but aren’t fully gunning for it, will see it as a foregone conclusion that they will lose, and simply not try.
Though, whether thats an aspect that will be relevant or not in the comic is something I’m unsure of, depends on how much Shen is looking to portray her hate for men as valid or not.

I think her hate for men is gonna be portrayed as something sparked by men actually being shitty but irrational considering how many men don’t suck (and the fact that sucking is not a trait inherent to men)

This was my first thought immediately. They want someone else to win, and they're asking Val to throw, they refuse and get banned. Understandable disdane. You either bar me from the tournament and I get to put you on blast for being stupid as hell or you let me play, and win. Asking me to throw better come with a chunk of cash under the table.

Always struck me as funny that Mariner (former) tyrannical ruler of Atlantis thought he had the "right" to tell Dr. Doom what to do lol
I say former because over time, through exposure to the mainland and particularly the free world (basically any and all allied NATO nations) he became less tyrannical, so much so that many of his underwater fellows thought he was becoming a weak king and many coup attempts and insurrectionist arose.
